A category four hurricane has swept the west coast of Florida, creating havoc, changing lives, and reshaping the ocean bottom. Well-known reefs and wrecks have been covered up, and new ones have emerged. The old woman who visits Doc Ford's lab late one night has a haunting story, of a loved one lost while rendezvousing with a German submarine off the coast of Florida 60 years earlier, of her belief that he was being blackmailed and that the storm has given her a second chance to prove his innocence.

    "Florida writers rule"
    Overall

White and Strozier earned a standing "O" for this effort. Whether judged based on the merits of his craft, his research skills, his cheesehead lines and/or his "good sense" of storytelling... RWW deserves good marks here. Honorable Mention also goes to the narrator for the "Futch rants" and to the author for his insights regarding the relative survival skills of pigs and cats.

It should be noted that, given my credentials as a Native Cracker and resident authority, my 5 Star rating ought to be doubled when calculating the final percentage.

This modern classic and New York Times best seller, a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award, has been called the greatest war book ever written. Walking the hallucinatory line between reality and fiction, author Tim O'Brien captures the complex dynamics of the Vietnam War.

    R. Montagne says: "Disturbing"
"I want a refund, this book is a doorstop"
    Overall

To whoever wrote the description for this bird cage liner: shame on you! Poor birdy! The description for this book had to be written by the "author's" mom. It's not about the dynamics of the Vietnam War, as it says in the description; it's a near sighted glimpse into the immature thought processes of a self indulgent brat. This is an insult and as far from being a classic as the menu at a fast food joint...I gave it a "1" for punctuation.

When a car bomb explodes outside a Parisian café, Navy Seal turned covert Homeland Security Operative Scot Harvath is thrust back into the life he has tried so desperately to leave behind. Saving the intended victim of the attack, Harvath becomes party to an amazing and perilous race to uncover a secret so powerful that militant Islam could be defeated once and for all without firing another shot, dropping another bomb, or launching another covert action.

A worthwhile and enjoyable marriage of fact and fiction. It's so much fun you won't even know it's good for you.

In one of the most compelling combat narratives ever written, Staff Sergeant David Bellavia, an Army infantry platoon leader in Iraq, gives a teeth-rattling, first-hand account of 11 straight days of heavy house-to-house fighting during the climactic second battle of Fallujah. His actions in the firefight, which included killing five insurgents in hand-to-hand combat, earned Bellavia the Bronze Star, the Silver Star, and New York state's highest military honor, the Conspicuous Service Cross.

  • Charlie Wilson's War: The Extraordinary Story of the Largest Covert Operation in History

Charlie Wilson's War is the untold story behind the last battle of the Cold War and how it fueled the rise of militant Islam. George Crile tells how Charlie Wilson, a maverick congressman from east Texas, conspired with a rogue CIA operative to launch the biggest, meanest, and most successful covert operation in the agency's history.

Chuck says: "Best Non-Fiction Book - Extremely Compelling!!!"
    "Everyone's war"
    Overall

As one reads this book the line between fiction and reality gradually fades and eventually becomes invisible. It is always the individual in history who steps forward to save us from ourselves and the bureaucracy that is ever present and ever willing to profit from our collective self destructive isolationism and tolerance of liberal fascism. as we look forward to the coming election let us pray for another FDR or Charlie Wilson as the threat of Islamic extremism becomes increasingly unavoidable. I, for one, am finding hope in short supply as I contemplate a nation under the disingenuous influence of Mr. Obama.
