  • Rise to Rebellion: A Novel of the American Revolution

    • ABRIDGED (6 hrs and 1 min)
    • By Jeff Shaara
    • Narrated By Victor Garber

In 1770, the fuse of revolution is lit by a fateful command - "Fire!" - as England's peace keeping mission ignites into the Boston Massacre. The senseless killing of civilians leads to a tumultuous trial in which lawyer John Adams must defend the very enemy who has assaulted and abused the laws he holds sacred. Shaara's most impressive achievement yet, Rise to Rebellion reveals with new immediacy how a scattered group of colonies became the United States of America.

Michael says: "Great book hurt greatly as abridged"

Never a better story. We know how it comes out but the devil is in the details. One of the best books I have listened to or read. The reader makes the words live.

  • The Surgeon's Mate: Aubrey/Maturin Series, Book 7

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 59 mins)
    • By Patrick O'Brian
    • Narrated By Patrick Tull

Jack Aubrey, Post Captain in the British Royal Navy, is suffused with happiness. The Shannon's engagement with the U.S. Chesapeake off the New England coast has resulted in victory, just another in a long string of them for Aubrey, nicknamed Lucky Jack for his tendency to win big. But Jack is less sure-footed by land than by sea.

    Paul says: "surgeon"
"Better than the movie (Master and Comander)"

Listening to Patrick Tull read is such a pleasure. This series is one of the best reasons for audio books.

  • Last Car to Elysian Fields

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 11 mins)
    • By James Lee Burke
    • Narrated By Mark Hammer
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When Dave Robicheaux, learns that an old friend, Father Jimmie Dolan has been the victim of a particularly brutal assault, he returns to New Orleans to investigate, if only unofficially.

    Joseph says: "Another winner."
"Read it, then listened to it."

There is nothing like listening to Mark Hammer read Burke. Spending a lot of time in the car I listen to 1 or 2 books per week. If you don't like Mark Hammers' reading you aren't listening. Reading Elysian Fields was great but listening was better. Hammer makes the book live.

  • Lost Light: Harry Bosch Series, Book 9

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 4 mins)
    • By Michael Connelly
    • Narrated By Len Cariou

Four years ago, LAPD detective Harry Bosch was on a movie set, asking questions about the murder of a young production assistant, when an armored car arrived with $2 million cash for use in a heist scene. In a life-imitates-art firestorm, a gang of masked men converged on the delivery and robbed the armored car with guns blazing. The crime was never resolved, and the young woman's murder was in the stack of unsolved-case files Bosch carried home the night he left the LAPD.

    Harris says: "Dashel Hammet Redux"
    "Just a great listen"

The music adds a nice touch. The readers voice sets the stage for a good story.
