What would have made Immune better?

Do you enjoy page after page of descriptions of dismemberment & torture ( including the torture of pregnant women) ? This is the book for you. I am disgusted with myself for reading it.. or most of it. I picked up the first book as a fun car trip read, liking sci-fi and thrillers. The second becomes basically a vivid description of torture every other chapter,.. until part way through the second half when that is what you can expect in every chapter. I wanted to know what happens to the young protagonists but began fast forwarding through hideous material ... which is pretty much the entire ending of the book.

Most of this is unnecessary for the plot. I didn't expect this to be a great work of literature, but I would never have purchased it knowing that it was sadistic.

What was most disappointing about Richard Phillips’s story?

Disgusting sadism, all major female characters are victims or intended for rape and torture. We get to hear lots of hideous details from the plethora of serial killers. Women are more or less powerless, adheres to sexist stereotypes throughout.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disgust. Sadness that someone enjoys reading (and writing) this stuff.
