This is a highly entertaining book - the author presents humorous snapshots of a variety of people in locations all over the world and does this in a witty and clever way. It's David Sedaris without the crude edge - and very much along the lines of Bill Bryson - the author has a good eye and a gift for sharing his observations in a way that is never dull. I loved it!
This is one of the most powerful and well written books I have read. It takes the reader on a journey of discovery as a sharp young woman tries to avoid taking on a case that will interfere with her prestigious law practice, however, the client - who is a survived of Nazi brutality helps her find her voice and passion for life. In the course of this book the reader will learn first hand about the courage, suffering and eventual triumph of the human spirit over evil. I was unable to stop listening once I started.
Authors voice and dry humor throughout the book.
There were many characters but the author and his quest was my favorite.
The whirling dervish.
No - I wanted to prolong the pleasure.
Dull, boring and needlessly vulgar. I was really looking forward to something clever and entertaining - but I very disappointed.
Proulx does not disappoint and the narrator is excellent. Highly enjoyable and engaging stories with great presentation by the reader.
Started out promising and quickly became dull and plodding. What a disappointment.
The best audio book I've ever listened to. Of course - I am a "Trekie" but I've listened to this 3 times and still am not tired of it. The narrator has a highly entertaining style and the content really is interesting if you have been immersed in any of the Star Trek genre of shows. Highly entertaining, smart and clever.
Interesting and entertaining. If you work in an office environment - you'll find types you recognize here and it's refreshing to hear them described in context. I enjoyed this.
This is biased political commentary and I suppose the author has the right to say whatever he wants - but I wanted wit, observation and insight without being beat over the head with his point of view. Very disappointing....I deleted it after about 30 minutes of listening.
Very entertaining audio book - vicarious adventure to follow a woman who 'chucks it all' to live in a harsh place for a season. Clever writing and engages the reader. The australian accent of the reader was a bit annoying - but the story was great.
This is an exceedingly dull book. It was so disappointing after the witty and highly entertaining "Walk in the Woods" and other travel books by this author. If you've read "Walk in the Woods" and other Bryson travel books and are seeking additional Bryson style wit and originality - I think you will be disappointed.
