Laying hands upon the injured and dying, Avry of Kazan absorbs their wounds and diseases into herself. But rather than being honored for her skills, she is hunted. Healers like Avry are accused of spreading the plague that has decimated the Fifteen Realms, leaving the survivors in a state of chaos.

Wanting to broaden my scope by listening to something in the fantasy genre, I listened to Maria V. Snyder's Poison Study narrated by Gabra Zackman. I was HOOKED! The sequels were equally as delightful and I was missing them dearly when I finished. When Touch of Power was available, I immediately downloaded it and listened and was not disappointed. The story line is interesting and I found myself taking longer walks so I would not have to turn it off. The only bad thing is when they end. More please.

When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.

These books reminded me of the first Harlequin Romance I read (having sneaked it out of my mother's discards), but truly amped up in eroticism. I'm certainly old enough to read the descriptions of sex, but the audience attracted to the whiny, valley girl voice of the narrator is probably not. I succumbed to the hype about the book, wanting to see (or hear) for myself. I had read an article about the huge waiting list at our local library. In the end, I hate to admit I enjoyed the books, they were predictable, but explicit, and I'm sure they will spoil a lot of young teens for the realities of real life men and their sexual prowess. The virgin girl, the fantastically handsome rich bad boy who only can love her, the humility in Anna, all pretty far reaching, but, after all, this is a fantasy, right? I even got used to the narrator. I think all I am left with is a feeling of guilt for wanting to read this series, a knowledge that I have supported really poor literature, and a yearning to be Anna.
