"Mildly Entertaining - Sequel"
Audible, you need to do a better job telling us when a book is a sequel, series etc. I didn't realize that Twilight of the Dead was the first book in this series prior to listening to After Twilight. That being said, this book was reasonably entertaining but somewhat fragmented and unfocused with lots of loose ends thrown around. What's up with the "Mad Scientist... I mean mad Mathematician"? I've listened to a lot of zombie and survival books, and this was was somewhat ordinary. If this book is at the bottom of your wish list then go ahead and read it otherwise hit the other books in your list first.
"I So Wanted to Like This"
This is not a book about submarines, survival, apocalypse, disaster. This could very well have been a book about a group of people dying of cancer. In other words: We are sick, we know we are dying, we know how much time we have left, we know everyone else is dead, how do we cope until the end. Depressing and slow. If you enjoy being depressed and listening to people lament, then this book is for you. Zzzzzzzz!
"Not Bad, A Bit Hoakey"
Overall entertaining albeit I'd probably characterize this more as "science fiction". If you like suspense, mystery and drama then this book does a reasonably good job. Think Jaws, Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Blob. Not as good as any of those stories, but same general concept.
"Action and Adventure - Yes"
If you enjoy mystery, action and adventure stories then you will like this book. The mystery of seeking out an unknown item, the action associated with finding it, understanding it and dealing with it, and the adventure associated with dealing with nature, "the bad guys" and engineering challenges. This book has all of that and more. I was pleasantly surprised. Buckle up!
"Survival & Planning"
If you like stories about planning for the worst and then having to survive and deal with the collapse of society, then this story is for you. Be warned, the author goes off on a few rants especially when describing equipment and procedures for preparedness. I would summarize this book as a guide for getting ready for and living through the collapse of civilization wrapped in a story that personalizes it and allows the author to use the characters to exercise various survival scenarios (fighting off hostiles, setting up camp, foraging, handling medical crises, etc. Although a few parts dragged, especially while the author ran lists of supplies, etc. I actually enjoyed the story. I may even use this book as a reference for camping or should I decide to purchase firearms and equipment.
"No Meat to this Story"
I couldn't wait for this to end. Once you understand what this dystopian story is all about (within the first couple of chapters) the story line gets old very quickly. Yes, there is some graphic gruesomeness and sex, but even that doesn't fit well into this story. Overall, this is a somewhat boring and unfocused story about food production. Go for it if you're into that sort of thing. Stay away if you are expecting action, mystery, suspense or drama.
"Apocalypse Story that made me want to kill myself"
If you enjoy watching paint dry, or staring at the bathtub while it is filling, then you will love this book. Hey Jim, look, the water is a little higher now, almost to the soap scum ring in the tub... wow! Very boring book. I'm not saying that the book needs to be action packed, but it should at least have a plot or something that at least captures the reader's interest. I'll summarize this book for you so that you don't have to read it... here is the theme.... earth filling (bathtub analogy), people moving way from water, earth filling some more, people move a little more (over and over again). Hey Jim, look, the parking lot is flooded, oh no! Maybe we should consider moving back a few inches before our shoes get wet. Seriously, I don't understand the good reviews this book has received. I was a trooper and listened to it all, but really came away feeling like I wasted my time.
"Will it ever end?"
This was a painful, slow, directionless story. If you are into butch, disfigured lesbians and don't care where a story starts, is, and is going, then this book is for you. This is one of two books I've listened to that I just couldn't wait until it ended. Dreadful! Not sure why anyone would give this high marks.
"Great Book"
Loved it. Interesting story, great narration. Interesting concept. Worth a listen.
"Loved It"
I'm not a big King fan, but I really enjoyed this book. The narrator really made it. It was a long book, but I enjoyed it so much, it didn't matter.
