It's the 1960s and the world of advertising is coming alive - and it's an exciting world to be part of. Simon Wong, a Chinese-Australian and promising young advertising executive, is sent to Singapore to establish an office. He finds himself thrust into an environment that is at once strangely familiar and profoundly different; one where the rules that govern behaviour - both in business and in personal life - differ wildly from what he is used to. And where all is not what it appears to be.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I'm no writer so I can't say. Too many long stretches of boredom!

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Paris, A Novel

What about Humphrey Bower’s performance did you like?

Humphrey Bower is the only reason this book gets a three star rating. He is consistently excellent and I will try a book he reads even if I am not familiar with the author.

Was Fortune Cookie worth the listening time?

No, Unlike other Courtnay books, except Fishing for Stars, I went through several chapters at time and a half speed or skipping whole chapters. I have about two hours to complete and am hoping for some saving grace.

Nicholas Duncan is a semi-retired shipping magnate who resides in idyllic Beautiful Bay in Indonesia, where he is known as the old patriarch of the islands. He is grieving the loss of his beautiful Eurasian wife, Anna, and is suffering for the first time from disturbing flashbacks to WWII, the scene of their first meeting and early love. His other wartime lover is the striking Marg Hamilton, a powerful and influential political player in Australia who has remained close to Nick.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not time well spent. This was the retelling of a previous book and nothing new to offer. So disappointed as I loved all the others. One more of Courtenay's already purchased. Hope it will be a credit well used

Ayla, one of the most remarkable and beloved heroines in contemporary fiction, continues to explore the world and the people around her with curiosity, insight, and, above all, courage. As the story opens, Ayla, Jondalar, and their infant daughter, Jonayla, are living with the Zelandonii in the Ninth Cave - a shelter of stone. Ayla has been chosen as an acolyte and has embarked on the arduous task of training to become a spiritual leader.

I rate it a 1 because Sandra Burr read it and she deserves a 5. The book; I read the reviews and refused to believe them. This book is "terrible", boring and redundant. I thought if I heard another mention of the mother's song, I would throw up. Hard to believe Ms. Auel would let this be published and accept money for it.

To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life — a quaint house on an island off Seattle’s coast, a thriving dog-training school, and a challenging volunteer job performing canine search and rescue. Not to mention her three intensely loyal Labs. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare.

    Overall

Early nora was very entertaining. Maybe too many books made her writing banal. I stopped reading her for years but decided to try again. THE SEARCH is a waste of my money. There is no plot to this story up to the second chapter in part 2. That's where I stopped listening. i need something to make me wonder what will happen next or how it will happen. NOTHINGS happening,so far, in this book
