Yes, Ray Porter + downloaded maps make it come to life/death
Honesty Pure honesty about war/combat/leadership delivered with LOVE about how combat creates relationships few get to know, and even fewer talk about.
This man can read the wrapper to a candy bar and make it interesting, funny, and sad at at the same time.
Good inflection and his breathing technique heard just below the surface of the story is incredible, restrained for some sentences, bursting forward with attitude at other times to make the story a living thing not an artifact.
That Love in the end makes the most powerful leadership, combat unit, and fighting possible. That this love that each member of the platoon had for each other and the unit as a whole was in the end greater combined that the total possible. That made this more than a Band of Brothers story, but oddly enough a love story in the midst of pain, anger, shame, betrayal, death and destruction.
Buy this book to give to anyone who wants a perspective devoid of politics about this war. Give this book to anyone who wants to understand the power of love in war and leadership. Give this book to anyone who wants to know what a real hero is, not the PR baggage the media loads us down with but real unselfish love for your fellow man and maybe even your country.
If you can follow a question that never gets answered then yes I would recommend this dream.
Yes a lovely voice to hear
The disappearance in the first chapter, left me confused and angry for more!
The town of freaks.that inhibit this world
I wish the stories were either tighter or looser but as written they never have a chance to either totally connect or live on their own I would have preferred less obvious connections and more mystical relevations, there is no need to wrap an enigma in reality!
