  • All the Light We Cannot See: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (16 hrs and 2 mins)
    • By Anthony Doerr
    • Narrated By Zach Appelman
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

Absolutely fantastic story read by an incredible narrator. Every character was painted beautifully. I generally don't care for war stories but this one was superb. A must listen.

  • The Search

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 53 mins)
    • By Nora Roberts
    • Narrated By Tanya Eby

To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life — a quaint house on an island off Seattle’s coast, a thriving dog-training school, and a challenging volunteer job performing canine search and rescue. Not to mention her three intensely loyal Labs. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare.

What disappointed you about The Search?

It's hardly a story. And, the main character's narration irritates me. I disregarded the other reviews that said that it's mostly a dog training book. I love dogs and am interested in their training so I thought the book would be interesting. NOT! Don't waste your money like I did.

What could Nora Roberts have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Have a deeper, more interesting story.

How could the performance have been better?

Maybe it's just me but I couldn't stand the main character's voice. The others were fine.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Very disappointed. I usually like Nora Roberts but certainly not this time.

  • The Rainmaker

    • UNABRIDGED (17 hrs and 3 mins)
    • By John Grisham
    • Narrated By Frank Muller
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

It's summer in Memphis. The sweat is sticking to Rudy Baylor's shirt and creditors are nipping at his heels. Once he had aspirations of breezing through law school and punching his ticket to the good life. Now he doesn't have a joy or a prayer...except for one: an insurance dispute that leaves a family devastated and opens the door for a lawsuit, if Rudy can find a way to file it.

    Mike says: "Excellent Story..."
    "Great Story"
Would you listen to The Rainmaker again? Why?

Yes, I would but perhaps in a year or so.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Well, not necessarily on the edge of my seat because it wasn't that type of story but it was extremely interesting and realistic. I appreciated all of the legal technical details — it made it more like a biography than a story.

    Which scene was your favorite?

How Rudy took advantage of his phone having been tapped to mislead the other attorney.

    Any additional comments?

This book is much better than the film.

  • Steve Jobs

    • UNABRIDGED (25 hrs and 19 mins)
    • By Walter Isaacson
    • Narrated By Dylan Baker
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Based on more than 40 interviews with Jobs conducted over two years—as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues—Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing.

    Jeanne says: "Interesting man"
If you could sum up Steve Jobs in three words, what would they be?

    genius, genius, genius

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Duh, of course, Steve!

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

I found him hard to listen to in the beginning and felt he lacked the excellence Steve Jobs would have demanded. But, either he improved or I got used to him or perhaps I was so absorbed in the details of the story that it didn't matter anymore.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was astonished at the depth of Steve's involvement with everything and equally astonished at Walter Isaacson's ability to convey it all. I was also grateful that Isaacson was able to capture Jobs' personality traits throughout and a host of other people involved with him.Cry, yes — this incredible man is gone and will will never know how else Steve Jobs would have changed our lives.

    Any additional comments?

A spectacular book about an incredible person. Kudos to Walter Isaacson for informing us so well. I only wish the book had been written years before as well as now.
