What a cool short listen ... my only complaint is that I wanted more when it was done.
So the dialogue is ridiculous, characters shallow and predictable, plot silly .... and I'll definitely read the next two! If your expectations are low enough, this can be a fun listen. Certainly helps to have the wonderful Cassandra Campbell narrating it.
I'm glad Ms. Harris is letting this series end, she seems to have lost her energy for this story some time ago. And this last installment is pretty low energy as well. The main bright spot, as usual, is Johanna Parker's narration, which, over time, seems like a good friend telling me a long boring story. No matter the lack of plot or action, I just like hearing her talk to me. I think I'll wander over to the "Bloodhound" series so she can keep talking to me; who knows, maybe there will be a good story too ...
Fun and light, well paced and well read. Not life changing literature but you got to like a good story told well.
Great story, sucked me in from the beginning and never let up ... and great ending. My only star off was that the reader did not do male voices very well and I found that every time one "spoke" I was distracted by that. Her performance of the story other than that detail was excellent.
This is essential reading for those who wish to be extremely nervous. Normally I'm a pretty relaxed person ... currently I'm walking around in a panic at how vulnerable we all are. Great Book!! (?)
Story was a bit forced to fit the tale ... which it never did ... but the biggest offense was in the reading. It sounded mechanical and difficult to get through. Not an enjoyable listen for me.
The narration of Arthur has to be among the best audible performances to date. Beautifully paced, vulnerable and with a gentle timbre brought this story to life in a way that a simple read could never have done. Definitely on the list of great books made better by the performance of their reading.
Well narrated stylistic future world, great visual build. Storyline is weaker than storytell but overall good listening experience. Would recommend it.
It was great revisiting our intrepid heroes of the Dark Tower and spending a bit of time with them after all these years. And the story within the story within the story trick was ambitious and well done. Great yarn in the end. My only complaint is that Mr. King probably would do better by letting someone else read his books. Not much inflection, characters run together, and raspy. The only pleasant part of his voice was the memories of my heavy smoker grandfather who told lots of stories when I was younger.
