A wonderful, enjoyable experience that deserves a second and third listening. Highly recommended.

I just couldn't listen to this narrator. He is a fine reader, but once you have heard Mark Hammer, no one else can ever be Dave. Sorry. I tried, but I just couldn't.

This book is not for everyone, only those that appreciate a dark sense of humor, a good story with more twists and turns than a sports car road race, vivid and right on point criticism of what has happened to South Florida and a book that is hard to put down. Warning: if you listen to it in public, you may find yourself laughing out loud before you know it.

Burke and especially Hammer have never been better. Clearly these books rise far above the mystery category into great literature. Hammer reads so well you assume the books were written just for his great voice. Can't wait for some more to be made available on audible.com.

Great, intelligent writing, good story, wonderful narration, a pure pleasure. The "hero" is an imperfect human being but someone you are a better person for spending time with. Please, please re-record the other Burke novels in an unabridged format with Mark Hammer doing the reading. I will be listening to this often over the years. Thank you, James Lee Burke, and especially thank you, Mark Hammer. What a team!

Great writing, wonderful reading, intelligent dialogue, very accurate and knowledgable of the court system. It doesn't get much better than this.

Hard to put down. I find myself hoping for a traffic jam or delay so I can hear more. Worth listening to more than once. Great writing, and the reading puts you right in the book. Just don't get lost and miss a turn like I did while listening to an especially good part!

I loved listening to this book, and intend to listen to it again soon. Driving across the country, I found myself unhappy to have to stop for gas because I would have to stop the book for a few minutes. Great story, character development, literary content and human insights. Great book, would recommend it to anyone who would not be seriously offended by a few sexual references that are very relevant to the story line but somewhat graphic.
