A much-needed antidote to our modern, assembly-line approach to childbirth, this new book is designed as a guide for all who wish to participate in the wondrous process of bringing new life into the world. Its ideas derive from two sources: the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda, with its emphasis on body, mind, and spirit; and the latest Western scientific prenatal research.

This book was pretty good and a little slow. I learned about different massage oils and herbs to use during pregnancy and the importance of relaxing and staying positive. It was a little mystical for my taste. But of course that is to be expected from the author :) I am more aware of my thoughts as I realize they affect my unborn child.

Pastor Joel Osteen writes how we can generate Friday's level of contentment and joy every day of the week. Known as a man who maintains a constant positive outlook in spite of circumstances, Osteen has described this message as a core theme of his ministry. Combining his personal experiences with scriptural insights and principles for true happiness, he shows listeners how every day can hold the same promise and opportunities for pure joy that they experience at five o'clock on Friday.

I absolutely loooove Joel Osteen's books. He has a great sense of humor and is such an optimist. I started treating every day as a Friday and these past 2 weeks have been stellar. I also like his Christian insight of placing others first and not letting others' moods affect you. Instead, try to help or offer a word of encouragement and try to understand that we have no idea what suffering others have gone through. Joel is a talented author and the book just flows and his voice is pleasant and kind. A++++++++

After the loss of a loved one, once the services are over and the relatives and friends have gone home, we are left to enter a strange new land, where someone who has given meaning to our life is gone. Drawing on her own experience as well as that of others, author Martha Whitmore Hickman presents a year's worth of meditations for people dealing with this profound loss, offering solace and illuminating a way forward. From January 1 to December 31, each day's meditation considers a meaningful quotation or passage on grief or suffering....

Martha Whitmore Hickman does an excellent job of encouraging those who have lost a loved one. Her book is poetic and is written with love. I can see that since she lost her teenage daughter and she speaks from personal experience.

She is respectful of the grief process yet she nudges you slowly to enjoying the moment and accept that the situation cannot be changed but your reaction can. She also offers comfort in that one can actually feel the presence of a loved one who has passed.

This is true because I recently lost my father and every now and then I do feel him near or I will dream of him and it seems too real and vivid.

Losing someone can be heart wrenching but Ms. Hickman is an excellent example of balancing the grieving process with hope.

What a delightful book. It was so pleasant hearing Chopin's music along with his life story and seeing how events in his life inspired certain pieces.

This is such an interesting way to learn about the masters.

    The narrators voice was pleasant.

Excellent read filled with great tips!!!

In the hustle and bustle of today's busy world, sometimes it's hard enough to hear yourself think, much less take a minute to stop and listen for the voice of God. But learning to recognize God's voice and the many ways in which He speaks is vital for following His plan. This devotional shows the reader through a daily reminder, how God speaks through their own thoughts and feelings, their dreams, and the words of other people.

I have read so many Joyce Meyer books books and I love them all. She is optimistic and her books are filled with easy to understand Christian messages that inspire and motivate. I love the fact that she is an optimist and that she teaches a selfless way of being. I read a lot non christian books that show rather cut throat techniques to achieve success so I especially enjoy a Christian approach where you learn that confidence is good but you have confidence in God for example. Or you learn how important it is to always think of others and how an active prayer life will change your life. Trusting in God is the way to go to achieving true happiness and joy and Joyce Meyer reminds me of this when I'm having a difficult day. She injects fuel in my day with her inspiration and talent in writing :)

This book was a little boring. I didn't learn anything new. It was filled with things I've learned over the years by reading magazines so it was like a compilation of a few articles. I did find the skincare section the most interesting but other than that I wasn't too thrilled.

Have you ever felt invisible? Taken advantage of? Reluctant (or unable) to articulate what you really want? If so, join the club. The Nice Girls Club. Nice girls - that's right, girls - are those who are more concerned with pleasing others than with addressing their own needs and who haven't yet learned how to overcome the childhood messages and cultural stereotypes that are keeping them from getting their voices heard, their needs met, and the lives they want.

I am woman, hear me roar. I enjoyed this book but a section of it rubbed me the wrong way. The author says that winning women need to build mutually beneficial relationships and should not spend the same time on with a sales clerk as someone who can help them advance in their career. I guess this does not jive with my Christian perspective where you are nice to everyone because we are all human and deserve the same respect and love regardless of where we come from and where we are going. So a calculating method does not equal winning in my book.

This book is a definite confidence boost and I realized that I place too much importance on how others view me and that this can be limiting. I only have a problem when things become calculating.

    Overall

The section of this book that dealt with childhood illness was a little longwinded but it was important. This was more of a health book than a book with tips on how to raise kids. But learning that you should let the child be his own person and not really push your ideas onto him was a good tip. I was looking for a book that dealt with the psychology of raising a child and not so much about germs. Pretty good though.
