"Put on a sweater."
This is a good historical look at how difficult the weather made life in the past. I grew up with blizzards, but in a rural midwestern area. This looked at blizzards in the city. I liked it.
"OK - but kind of predictable"
Our Lady of the Forest by Gutterson is on same theme, but better writing.
"It took me far away from home"
I enjoyed this book once I found the website to follow along. His descriptions are so good - but the pictures and maps on the website really help to follow along.

"One of my all time favorite books"
I love the ending of this book. I love personalizing the ending - or changing the ending. Reading the books is very enjoyable and easy. The ending akes you think!
"Great characters!"
this was a fun, fun book. I just love picturing in my mind these wackey people
"Hard to believe - but I would love to meet him!"
A very interesting man - I enjoyed the way the book looked at all aspects of his interesting -both the good and the bad
"I am surprised I liked it!"
I kept thinking the main character was kind of wierd, but at the same time I really liked listening to his thoughts. Without treating them as victims - it gives a unique point of view on how mental illness affects family members.I did not want it to end - and when it did I wanted a sequal.
"a fresh view of women in the 1930's"
It seems in so many stories of women in the 1930's they are the downtrodden of the depression of America. This is a different view - for both Clara and her sister. Something new and different. I enjoyed the whole book
"too corney"
At first I thought the corney humor was light an funny. But it kept on and on.I thought this was just dumb and predictable. Disappoiting, too, and one of my favorite authors
"as usual - a good author - a good book"
I like this author's plot twists and turns. Always intriguing. The female characters a little predictable, but still a good listen.
"Fun - but kind of corney"
I liked this ok.However, the strange occupations, unusual family members, whacky statements that in the beginning were quirky and funny soon became corney and dumb.Though I usually like the long version, this one I would suggest abbriged. Not the best by this author.
