Dietrich Bonhoeffer was an amazing human being. I learned much from his courage and conviction. I think others can learn from his example as well
The inspiration to be a better person
I have never listened to Malcolm Hillgartner before but definately will again.
The whole story could have been told in 2 installations. The third installation was long and boring. You just wanted to get to the good stuff, but had to go through too much rhetoric.
After listening to this book you will never be the same! I am not usually one to listen to wartime books, however I made an exception due to the rave reviews. It was so worth it! I had no idea how much the POW's in Japan endured. We hear so much about the Holocaust in Germany, but many people suffered just as much in Japan.
This book isn't all suffering though. It is a testament to the spirit that lives inside us, pushing us towards our destiny no matter what the circumstances
I decided to listen to this book as I knew there was going to be a movie. I always like to compare and contrast. In the beginning, there is a lot of background information, and at times the digression was slightly annoying. However, as one earlier listener stated, you need the background to understand the ending. So persevere!
This book is very well written and the narrators make it complete. I have read and listened to many books on the Jewish Holocaust, this one took my breath away. It is a love story and a courageous survival story. Make sure you listen to the authors comments at the end of the book.
I have not been disappointed once by this fabulous series, and The White :Princess just tied the whole thing together. I am definitely going back to listen to the rest of the series now that I know the end.
Bianca Amato was a perfect fit to narrate this book. She adds emphasis to the already great written material.
I would recommend this book based on the characters, plot, and narrator
I loved the interplay between Amy and Richard.
Kate Reading seems to capture the time period as well as the inner thoughts of the characters
I love historical fiction as it takes me to a real place in time. This book (although mostly fiction) still transported me to 1803 England and France.
I already have recommended this book to quite a few people. I am unsure if the written version will be as fabulous as the audible one, however I think the stories hold their own.
All the stories were memorable. I enjoyed every one of them.
The narrator was amazing! The accents of all the characters made this listening so enjoyable! He must have needed oxygen during the 31+ hours he spent preparing for such a long read! He had such a great feel for all the characters, even the short term ones!
Probably not a long one...Perhaps a shorter book
I didn't have a certain scene. It was learning about how people lived 50 years ago. The author and narrator made the time come alive!
50 years ago we lost a charismatic, daring young president, John F. Kennedy. Can Jake Epping/George Amberson survive long enough against the "Obdurate" past to change 1122/63?
The characters were all such nice people, and that came across due to the author and the narrator
The narrator was amazing, which was made possible by the beautiful descriptions of Savannah provided by the author. I will listen to this book again!
My favorite character is Oletta, the black maid who comes to show CeCe just what love means.
I believe the characters come to life so much better when read by a talented narrator. This book was no exception...well done
Anne was by far my favorite character. I was disappointed that she died of a broken heart after all she had conquered already in her life. I would have wished her to grow stronger, not weaker. However, you can't change history.
