What made the experience of listening to The Chamber the most enjoyable?

I only wish the audible presentation came across a little louder over the speakers in the pickup. My husband and I enjoy listening to audible books while we are traveling for his job.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

What did you like about this audiobook?

My husband and I listened together while traveling. EVERYTHING!!!!!! Could not come up with a complaint if I was trying to.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

Captivating story line. Very entertaining listen. Spellbinding.Grabbed our attention and would not let go. We loved the way it jumped from young to old and back again.

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

I love the name. I caught the fact that hauling water for elephants was one of the things Jacob got so angry about when he was older and in the retirement home. "Everyone who knows anything knows you don't haul water for elephants".

Do you have any additional comments?

I was very hesitant to read this book when the reviews first came out. I never went to the movies to see it, I do not enjoy movie theaters and tend to wait for the video. But, I was intrigued by the story and wanted to see it or read it. I am so glad that I did it in this way and was able to share it with my husband. We both thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

Grabbed our attention from the beginning and held us captive until the end. Hated for it to be over. My husband enjoyed the read as much as I did.
