The investigation of LaShawn Tompkins's murder seemed straightforward enough. Upon his release from death row, the ex-drug-dealer returned to his old neighborhood where he was gunned down on his mother's doorstep. Just another case of turf warfare. At least that's what it looks like on the surface to Seattle investigator J. P. Beaumont, who's been handed the assignment under the strictest confidence.

Once again J. A. Jance has proven to be one of the best writers I've ever read. JP Beaumont is my favorite character of Jance's. I only wish she would write faster, I can't wait for the next book.

A serial killer is on the loose, and it’s up to FBI agents Dillon Savich and Lacey Sherlock to bring him down. They soon discover the killer has blood ties to an infamous and now long-dead monster. Savich and Sherlock are joined by agents Lucy Carlyle and Cooper McKnight, and the chase is on. At the same time, Agent Lucy Carlyle learns from her dying father that her grandfather didn’t simply walk away from his family twenty-two years ago: he was, in fact, murdered by his wife, Lucy’s grandmother.

What would have made Split Second: An FBI Thriller better?

More believable FBI agents, rather than the bumbling idiots they seemed in this book.

Has Split Second: An FBI Thriller turned you off from other books in this genre?

Not the genre, but maybe this author or the narrators.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Just not exciting enough, nor was it believable.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Disapointment

Maddy Sprowls, newspaper librarian for the Hannawa Herald-Union, prefers to stay in the newspaper morgue and do her job. But one Saturday, she sees four elderly women get out of a taxicab at a garage sale. She figures that those women must hire that cabby every week to drive them from garage sale to garage sale, and wouldn't that make a great feature story for the paper? Shortly after the story runs, one of the four women, retired antiques dealer Violeta Bell, is murdered.

A truly enjoyable book. This was my first C. R. Corwin book, and what a surprise. She's entertaining, and keeps you guessing. I especially enjoyed the narrator, Suzanne Toren. She brings Corwin's books to life with so much animation. I will definitely be listening to the rest of her books.

When Athena disappeared from St. Polycarp's College at Oxford, her friends assumed she had run away - to hide from her overbearing, wealthy Greek family, or even to marry some unacceptable young man. To their shock, they find out at their 10-year reunion that her body has been discovered in an excavation. Private investigator Regan Reilly, Athena's former college roommate, is determined to track down her friend's killer.

Really enjoyed my first book by Carol Higgins Clark, and the first in the series with Regan Reilly. I definitely plan on reading or listening to the rest of the series. Great suspense and intrigue with enjoyable characters.

  • Rules of Prey: A Lucas Davenport Novel

The "maddog" murderer who is terrorizing the Twin Cities is two things: insane and extremely intelligent. He kills for the pleasure of it and thoroughly enjoys placing elaborate obstacles to keep police befuddled. Each clever move he makes is another point of pride. But when the brilliant Lieutenant Lucas Davenport, a dedicated cop and a serial killer's worst nightmare, is brought in to take up the investigation, the maddog suddenly has an adversary worthy of his genius.

D says: "I love this series"
    "Good mystery, sorry language"
    Overall

I thought that Rules of Prey was a good book and that Sandford is a good writer. However, listening to an audio book is quite different than reading a book. Having to listen to so much foul language made the audio book hard on the ears. I might choose to read his books in the future, but I don't think I'll buy another audio book from him.
