Suspense, detective thrillers are my favorite genre and I usually like James Patterson. This was a disappointment for sure. I kept waiting for the "twists and turns" and "roller coaster" ride other reviewers mentioned and it just didn't happen. They must not have read some of the barn burners I've enjoyed. The plot here was terribly contrived and the scenarios too far fetched...(not to mention that the plot line has been overdone on mediocre made for TV movies for a decade) to be believable. The dialog was juvenile and the characters shallow and totally predictable. I think I'm done with Patterson for a bit..... sorry, James, I really did want to like it, but this one was a let down.
Perfect character development. Great plot twists. My favorite genre of novel and this is a very enjoyable listen. I can't say enough about the narrator. Great voices and accents and coudn't stop listening. If you enjoy police procedurals and thrillers, this one is for you.
I have read all of the Ledger books. In fact I devoured them one after another. Great storytelling. A combination of a bit of fact, a bit of fantasy and a bit of science fiction. Jon Maberry is my new favorite. As for narration, Ray Porter is the very best I've ever heard. He IS Joe Ledger in my book. I've read all six of these and I'm hungry for more.
I wanted to like it as I have enjoyed the first couple of "odd thomas" adventures. In previous books, I liked the quirky personality and interesting adventures seen from his perspective. This one totally misses the mark. It is so off the scale with silliness that I had to fast forward through some parts just to get to the end and put me out of my misery. This was a waste of a credit that I regret having used. The narration itself is fine, but the storyline is ridiculous and the telling tedious.
The combination of Adrian McKinty and Gerard Doyle is sheer perfection. McKinty weaves deep characters and complex plots. His wry sense of humor and and insight into our humanity (or lack thereof) make the characters real. I have now either read or listened to all of his books and still want more. Not enough great things can be said about the narration. This trilogy came to a satisfying conclusion. I will be watching for more from the wonderful author.
I am a Dean Koontz fan so I was expecting another great tale dancing on the edge of reality. Part time travel, part love story, part mystery, part science fiction and 100% entertaining. I was riveted from the beginning and just had to see what would happen in the next turn of events. Koontz has a way of quickly developing quirky characters without overdoing it and situations that, however unbelievable, we WANT to believe. Storytelling at it's best and I waned the story to go on and on. There are so many wonderful things about this well told fantasy, but I don't want to be a spoiler. If you like mysteries and appreciate letting your imagination wander, you will absolutely love this. I do believe this has been my favorite listen for a very long time. I can't imagine anyone not liking this one
This series is beyond wonderful for detective/mystery lovers. The writing here is crisp and fast paced and the character development is just enough to get the point across. McGinty is a true word master and wastes nothing. The subtle humor is sheer genius at times and the stories intricately woven against a background of real events and real people. The literary references are perfect. What can I say? I am hooked. I want more. I also have to mention the masterful narration by Mr. Doyle. PLEASE get the third of this series on audiobooks as fast as you can!
I have either read or listened to every book in the series and this one is great. This one focuses on the hunt and the storyline is fast paced and the writing is tight. I love the continued character development and relationship between Roarke and Dallas. Susan Ericksen is a master when it comes to bringing the players to life, and I can't imagine anyone else reading this series. I stayed up till 3am to finish this one and didn't want it to end.
As always Patton's narration is spot on and perfect. The characters are flawed, but leave a lasting impression. Burke's laid back style, lush descriptions and insight into the motives of his characters makes him the best at this genre. I've listened to the entire series and this was my favorite. PLEASE give us just one more.
Masterful storytelling. Spun with just the right amount of suspense and character development. Not too much, not too little. I didn't see it coming and I loved it! The narrator was great and brought the character to life. My only complaint is that I was up half the night because I could NOT stop listening. I will be wanting more from the author. It was simply brilliant!
Tana French has a talent for storytelling like I have never heard before. The characters are real and well developed to the point we feel their pain and understand their motivation. This is the third installment of the Dublin Murder series and while they can stand alone, listening to them in order brings a unique insight into recurring characters.
The storyline unfolds gradually and draws you in (the narration is spot on, by the way) and you find yourself inside the story, experiencing the drama as it unfolds.
I have recommended this series to every book lover I know.
