I so wanted to like this. Some previous reviews showed promise. This is my favorite genre, so my default was to give it the benefit of the doubt. No go. The plot is so contrived and ending so anti-climactic that I felt robbed of my credit and the time invested.. (I was a captive in my car without my computer to rid myself of this annoyance) If you enjoy thrillers, mysteries or crime stories, just move along and seek a better choice. The characters are unbelievable, the plot so "been there and done that" that I had to chuckle out loud when the protagonist was revealed. In the event that you feel compelled to try it anyhow, I won't be the spoiler, but I doubt that if you enjoy a good thriller that you will be fulfilled by this one. As soon as the "reveal" came about, I was done. Over the years I have purchased probably 200+ audiobooks and this time I want my money back... yes, it's that bad.
No.... but this author isn't on my "go-to" list, to say the least.
voicing was annoying. I wasn't impressed
No, not really. I want to be nice, but I just can't find anything I liked.
Well developed, believable characters. The reader is pulled into the story as the mystery unfolds. There is no "super power" or 6th sense at work.... just great detective work and deduction. I love the fact that the characters are flawed and human and folks I would like to know.
I'm liking Robin more and more... hoping that things progress with these two and the series continues
There were many and it would be hard to choose
If you enjoy mysteries you won't be disappointed.
I know that C Coulter has a loyal following. I've even enjoyed a book or two, but... NO.. just no. This was so poorly written and so lame. Written in the voice of "Oh John... Oh, Martha" sappy romance dime novels, but pretending to be a mystery. Characters are totally unbelievable. NO one would behave that way. Dialog was so inane and the whole plot was ridiculous, a few times I wanted to bang my head on my ipod. I know you ask, then WHY did I continue to listen? I kept hoping (call me the optimist) that at some point it would take a turn and make sense or get better, or come to a conclusion that would have justified the time already invested in listening... but NO. I'm not a literature snob. In fact, I'm rather easy to entertain. I enjoy so many genres and appreciate many different writing styes. I rarely give negative reviews, fully realizing that what we enjoy is highly subjective. But, please save your money. This book is so, so very bad. I got it on sale and if not for that, I would be calling to get my money back.
The genre? What genre was this exactly? It wasn't a romance novel, and sure as heck wasn't a mystery. It had no genre... maybe a comic strip
Sandra was fine. She isn't responsible for bad material. Her voicing and inflections were appropriate and she did her job.
all of the above.
Run... save your money. Don't waste your time. Not to Coulter. Please show more respect for your readers. We deserve better from you.
Interesting characters, unique plot line and dark humor. The narration was just perfect. More than once I stopped what I was doing and chuckled out loud. I will be getting every book in this series.
Odd Thomas would be a comparison.
No, but I will be looking for them. great narration
I totally enjoy the laid back style and character interpretation that Scott Brick delivers. I don't understand the negative comments. Scott totally becomes the characters and this one had me hooked from the beginning
There were a couple of good ones, but no spoilers, so I'll keep them to myself.
Koryta is my new favorite author. I love this genre and he delivers.
Absolutely. If you like police/crime thrillers this one will be for you
The "reveal" at the end. I did absolutely did NOT see it coming
No, but I will seek him out in the future. Wonderful narrator and character representation was spot on.
Jo Nesbo is a master at developing tension and developing interesting characters. More than once I found myself actually holding my breath. This is a great listen Five stars all around
Perfect character development. Great plot twists. My favorite genre of novel and this is a very enjoyable listen. I can't say enough about the narrator. Great voices and accents and coudn't stop listening. If you enjoy police procedurals and thrillers, this one is for you.
I have read all of the Ledger books. In fact I devoured them one after another. Great storytelling. A combination of a bit of fact, a bit of fantasy and a bit of science fiction. Jon Maberry is my new favorite. As for narration, Ray Porter is the very best I've ever heard. He IS Joe Ledger in my book. I've read all six of these and I'm hungry for more.
I wanted to like it as I have enjoyed the first couple of "odd thomas" adventures. In previous books, I liked the quirky personality and interesting adventures seen from his perspective. This one totally misses the mark. It is so off the scale with silliness that I had to fast forward through some parts just to get to the end and put me out of my misery. This was a waste of a credit that I regret having used. The narration itself is fine, but the storyline is ridiculous and the telling tedious.
The combination of Adrian McKinty and Gerard Doyle is sheer perfection. McKinty weaves deep characters and complex plots. His wry sense of humor and and insight into our humanity (or lack thereof) make the characters real. I have now either read or listened to all of his books and still want more. Not enough great things can be said about the narration. This trilogy came to a satisfying conclusion. I will be watching for more from the wonderful author.
