I love mystery thrillers and this one was worth every second. To those that say the beginning was slow, let me say that good things come to those who wait. The character development was flawless and the characters real. It was an unexpected twist to the thriller genre and saying too much would be a spoiler. Gillian Flynn has a unique insight in the dark side and a slick understanding of human nature at it's worst. You won't be disappointed with this one, I promise!
As always Patton's narration is spot on and perfect. The characters are flawed, but leave a lasting impression. Burke's laid back style, lush descriptions and insight into the motives of his characters makes him the best at this genre. I've listened to the entire series and this was my favorite. PLEASE give us just one more.
Masterful storytelling. Spun with just the right amount of suspense and character development. Not too much, not too little. I didn't see it coming and I loved it! The narrator was great and brought the character to life. My only complaint is that I was up half the night because I could NOT stop listening. I will be wanting more from the author. It was simply brilliant!
Tana French has a talent for storytelling like I have never heard before. The characters are real and well developed to the point we feel their pain and understand their motivation. This is the third installment of the Dublin Murder series and while they can stand alone, listening to them in order brings a unique insight into recurring characters.
The storyline unfolds gradually and draws you in (the narration is spot on, by the way) and you find yourself inside the story, experiencing the drama as it unfolds.
I have recommended this series to every book lover I know.
Fast paced and hard to put down. Bobby Cole is a great story teller and I will be looking for more. The characters are developed quickly and without unnecessary information and the situations are believable. The narration is spot on and I totally enjoyed this listen. One of the best so for!
I love this genre and I was really looking forward to settling down for a listen after reading the reviews. Let me begin by saying I really wanted to love it. The storyline was solid and the characters were believable. Where they lost me was the vapid, adolescent banter and interaction that absolutely NO intelligent adults in positions of authority would be party to. There were some truly inane conversations and groan worthy exchanges that had me almost cringing with embarrassment for the character. Some of it was so bad I fast forwarded to get through it. I don't mind a bit of double entendre and flirtation, but I have never heard adults have such ridiculous conversations. That having been said.... the story was ok, there were a few surprises and it was worth a credit. The narrator was good, but not on my favorites list. I would not recommend to a friend with a straight face.
If you like thrillers, don't hesitate for a second to get this one. I am a fan of the Michael Bennett series and this one is excellent. The fast pace and skillful character development made it hard to stop listening. Michael Bennett is a totally believable and likeable character that you want to have a beer with and would trust to have your back if you were in trouble. This one left me anxiously waiting to for the next installment. Bobby Cannavale's narration is spot on as usual.
Beautifully woven tapestry of past and present.... and the reader was perfect. The plot flows and the characters are developed well enough to know them without getting tedious. I can't think of a negative thing to say. It was totally enjoyable and I'll be getting more from this author,
Every time I thought I could let out my breath and relax, the plot took a twist and I was back on the ride! To detractors that say it was "over written" I say that the descriptions and details are what put you in the middle of the action and hold you captive. This is my favorite genre and Gregg Hurwitz does it proud. Then there is Scott Brick. What can you say about him other than he makes every book he reads come to life. Loved this one and if you like action thrillers you will too.
If you are an avid Pendergast fan, you will like this one. It answers a few questions and develops the Constance character. The purpose of this series is entertainment. If you want "reality" there are good documentaries out there. Pendergast is spiritual and rather ethereal and you just have to accept the premise to appreciate the stories. Just hang on and enjoy the ride. It's pure entertainment. I stayed up half the night to finish it!
