As with many trilogies, the second book just doesn't live up to the expectations set by the first. This is not a bad book, by any means, but it could certainly have been better. The pace was a bit slow at times, and the main character seemed to lack depth in this book which made it difficult for me to connect with the main character in this book.
I had high hopes for this book, but in the end I feel like this book should have been combined with the second, and both books would have been greatly improved. The pace was too slow, and the apathetic attitude of the main character becomes tiresome very quickly. I was tempted to fast-forward through sections of this book. The plot was also very weak, particularly near the end of the book. If I had it to do over again, I would have only listened to the first book in the series.
I enjoyed this book quite a bit. The story is very interesting, and keeps your attention throughout book, but not at the level of my absolute favorite books, so not quite a 5 star rating. The narrator does a good job, but there are times that she doesn't get the characters quite right. All-in-all, well worth the credit, and I highly recommend this book.
