Killing Orders, V.I. Warshawski’s third adventure, starts when her great-aunt Rosa summons the detective to her cold suburban home. Rosa made V.I.’s childhood miserable and the detective resents the command to help her aunt prove she didn't embezzle five million dollars from a local Dominican priory.

I thoroughly enjoyed this title! Although my favorite narrator is Jean Smart for this character, I still found that the readers voice was good and easily understood. This novel is full of suspense and action which I absolutely love! This is the 2nd audio book by this author I've experienced and am now hooked on the entire series! If you love detective novels with a smart-a$$, strong willed, kick-a$$ and take names type of character then you'll be in absolute heaven! Also, many mystery novels I read/hear end abruptly and never give you much aftermath information; Paretsky does!!! I love hearing how the characters end up, and this book is a good example. The family component in the novel is also awesome, since it gives you a better understanding of detective VI's history and upbringing. VI's temper, however, is something I had to get use to. Being a very relaxed type of person I couldn't relate to her getting upset at certain times. It seemed like whenever I would have gotten upset she was fine and when I didn't care she'd get upset. However it didn't ruin the story, just made me look at my own feelings more, HAHAHA!

What secrets hide behind the razzle-dazzle of the entertainment industry? V.I. Warshawski is about to find out. Her friend, reporter Murray Ryerson, has just landed a plum job as host of a Global Entertainment network television show. On her way home from the party celebrating the event, V.I. stops to help a woman lying in the street. Her Good Samaritan act exposes dark truths, and suddenly V.I. finds herself playing a game she can only win by staying alive.

This is the first VI novel I've heard and it has now made me an addict!!! The quality of the file is sketchy at first. I'm not sure if it was just my download, but it just jumped into narration. Luckily I continued and was absolutely amazed with how great the story and characters were. Also, I am a great fan of Jean Smart and love her interpretation of VI. A must hear!!!

When V. I. Warshawski is asked to find Lamont Gadsden, a man who's been missing for four decades, a search that she figured would be futile turns lethal. Old skeletons from the city's racially charged history, as well as haunting family secrets - her own and those of the elderly sisters who hired her - rise up to brush her back from the plate with a vengeance. To complicate matters, Petra, a young cousin whom V.I. has never met, arrives from Kansas City to work on a political campaign.

I'm currently addicted to all things VI! I absolutely love this book and am eagerly anticipating the next one. VI has never been shy about expressing her feelings (and I assume Ms. Paretsky's as well). In this novel she continues to give her beliefs on all things--healthcare, race relations, etc. I don't agree with all her beliefs but she's not me and I'm not her and to me all that matters is her unending search for the truth! VI doesn't care about what is PC or whose toes she might step on that are way up the food chain, she is David and the world is Goliath and she will stop at nothing to just get the simple truth with out all the BS! This novel also explores deeper into her own family history which I feel is normally cut out of many detective novels. Learning about her family is very interesting to me and listening to her inner conflicts concerning this case made me put myself in her situation and wonder how I would feel.
If you are a true VI fan then this is another home run!
