Fr. Robert Barron's comprehensive work goes straight to the core of the Catholic faith. He first examines the foundations of Christ's incarnation, life and ministry, and then works through the essentials of the Catholic tradition: from sacraments, worship and prayer, to Mary and the saints, and on to salvation, heaven and hell. Throughout this epic journey, Fr. Barron uses art, literature, personal stories, Scripture, theology, philosophy and history to present a complete picture of the Church to the world.

What made the experience of listening to Catholicism the most enjoyable?

Father Robert Barron reads with style his own book which gives new insights to wake up a person's faith. Not just a standard catechism although it is truly authentic, but it is a fresh and compelling view of what Catholicism is and is not. The little pictures and stories collected here bring faith to life, presenting a real life picture of a startling, radical religion that is Catholicism.

What about Robert Barron’s performance did you like?

Father Barron is a good reader and clearly believes what he has written and now reads. The tone is enthusiastic without false excitement, honest and refreshing.

    Any additional comments?

If you want to really think out your faith, this is a great place to start.

Would you consider the audio edition of Chip Champions a Lady to be better than the print version?

The voice of Barry Corbin brings something extra here. I love westerns but wasn't a Max Brand fan. But I will listen all day to Barry Corbin read Max Brand-- or any other book.

Where does Sherlock Holmes rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This performance is near the top. It is a recording of a movie from the Rathbone / Bruce years. It is not a reading but actual performance. If you have not seen the movie it might be hard to follow, but if you loved that movie series, just listening to it again is great.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The characters of Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson as played by Rathbone and Bruce are great. The other cast of character actors lend atmosphere.

    Any additional comments?

The only missing piece is the original opening score. I am sure there was a reason the movie score was not included.

Would you listen to Star Trek again? Why?

I love the old Star Trek optimism and style. The music that accompanies is perfect. Great escape from the ordinary for a while.

What did you like best about this story?

This was a good chance to bring out Dr. McCoy's past a bit. Mostly though, I like to hear the original stars. James Doohan has a great voice and can bring the other character's voices into his reading. He knows their style and pace of speaking.

What about James Doohan’s performance did you like?

Doohan has a perfect reading voice. It brings back memories of the original. He can mimic for lack of a better word, the voices of the other main characters extremely well.

St. Augustine (354-430 A.D.) was the first great systematic Christian philosopher. He attempted to combine the philosophical insights of Plato with the faith explicated in the Bible. Augustine thought of Plato's eternal forms as ideas in the mind of God; he believed that the Eternal Christ provides the light of knowledge to the human mind.

Would you consider the audio edition of St. Augustine to be better than the print version?

I wanted to learn a little more about this man and listening to Charlton Heston made it easier. It isn't the end, but it is a beginning of a study of St. Augustine. Great way to draw you into further study or to learn just enough to be conversant about him. Either way, a pleasure to listen.

St. Thomas Aquinas is known for producing history's most complete system of Christian philosophy. In the late 13th century, this quiet, reflective Dominican scholar combined the work of Aristotle with Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and pagan thought to reconcile reason and faith. For Thomas, intellectual knowledge is a sign of the spirituality that energizes the human center. He believed we can know that God exists, but not what God is like.

What did you love best about St. Thomas Aquinas?

The information is great and listening to Charlton Heston makes it easy to learn a little more than passing knowledge. While it is only a small start to the real study of this landmark thinker, it is a great introduction and the narrator makes it easy.
