He had nothing to recommend him but his smile, and she was surely too old, and had too much commonsense, to be beguiled by a smile... Miss Abigail Wendover's efforts to detach her spirited niece Fanny from a plausible fortune-hunter are complicated by the arrival in Bath of Miles Caverleigh. The black sheep of his family, a cynical, outrageous care-for-naught with a scandalous past - that would be a connection more shocking even than Fanny's unwise liaison with his nephew!

The excesses of the young Marquis of Vidal are even wilder than his father's before him. Not for nothing is the reckless duellist and gamester called "the Devil's Cub". But when he is forced to leave the country, Mary Challoner discovers his fiendish plan to abduct her sister. Any only by daring to impersonate her can Mary save her sibling from certain ruin.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes change the narrator - his phoney accent detracted from the experience of hearing a favourite story.

What did you like best about this story?

I've loved this story since my 88 yr old grandfather gave it to me on my 16th birthday. It has plenty of action, and is a classic Georgette Heyer.

How could the performance have been better?

As I said before the performance was ruined for me by the narrators put on accents. It would have been better if he simply read it rather than trying out for an 'off-putting' accent for the lead character.
