Ruthless and cunning, her only loyalty is to her ship and her crew-until one man comes along and changes everything.... This is the 3rd story in Iron Seas series. I've been waiting for this series in audio since the first novella, Here There Be Monsters came out. It was a wonderful surprise to have them all come out on the same day. This is very good Steampunk! It's a popular genre right now and sometimes Steampunk elements can feel shoehorned into a series. NOT so here. It's fully integrated as part of the plot and worldbuilding. Nothing feels contrived. The writing does a very good job of painting a picture of the world, again, strong visual writing style works best with Steampunk as it's elements are very visual. It does have romance but I never feel like it interferes with the storytelling. The lead female is kick ass and remains so.

Faye Adele is a new reader to me. I think she does a very good job. The pacing is well done, her character voices are sound and consistent and the production value is excellent.

Highly recommended. I'm off now to DL Iron Duke, the first full novel in this series. It will be fun to experience it as a listen after having read the story several times.

The story has some problems but the main issue is Laural Merlington. She absolutely can NOT do these accents. And please, please STOP voicing the laugh! It is VERY irritating, it not only pulls me out of the story, I cringe every time I hear "he/she chuckled/laughed" cause I know that horrible "heh, heh, heh" laugh sound will follow. I have managed to listen to Merlington before. She does the laugh on Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld series also. The *laugh* combined with the HORRIBLE accents make this a very unpleasant listen.

Daniel Mackenzie lives up to the reputation of the scandalous Mackenzie family - he has wealth, looks, and talent, and women love him. When he meets Violet Bastien - one of the most famous spiritual mediums in England - he immediately knows two things: that Miss Bastien is a fraud, and that he’s wildly attracted to her.

I really liked The Madness of Ian MacKenzie a lot. The rest of the series has gone down a bit each book. I have read some, I've listened to some. I was really looking forward to Daniel's book and I liked the set up. But somehow it missed the potential. Daniel has always been able to get what he's wanted in the past books off his charm. In this book he sort of runs over everyone and no one gets angry cause of his charm. As far as the Violet, I really dislike stories that feature her particular form of damage.

Now for the biggest problem. What is going on with Angela Dawe? Her limited voices and odd cadence haven't bothered me AS bad in other books. I didn't notice it at all in Madness of Ian. In this book, especially the first file, you can count to 2 between every sentence, sometime 3. It's like she's being presented ONE sentence at a time on a dragging monitor. The pause is frustrating and very distracting. She has a habit of framing each sentence strongly anyway, but the gap between was far too long.

I loved Kelley Armstrong's adult Otherworld but not as much her YA work. This is definitely in line with the Adult Otherworld. Great story, very engaging. easy to follow. My only issue is I see no reason to have the two female readers. I found that distracting. Still, even with that, well worth the credit and I can't wait for the next book. It does leave quite a lot of threads untied.

Only a handful of people in the world know that mankind's magic comes from a living creature, and it is a refugee from another universe. The Power showed up here in the 1850s because it was running from something. Now it is 1933, and the Power's hiding place has been discovered by a killer. It is a predator that eats magic and leaves destroyed worlds in its wake. Earth is next. Former private eye Jake Sullivan knows the score. The problem is, hardly anyone believes him.

This is an excellent wrap up to a very good series. The writing is an interesting mix of genre, little bit steampunk, little bit noir, little bit fantasy. It all blends well with the PERFECT reader. Bronson Pinchot it one of the very best out there. Definitely a 5 star series all around.

Claire is a 20-something, single mom who grudgingly helps her best friend sell sex toys while she attempts to make enough money to start her own business to give her foul-mouthed, but extremely loveable (when he's asleep) toddler a better life. When Carter, the one-night-stand from her past that changed her life forever, shows up in her hometown bar without any recollection of her besides her unique chocolate scent, Claire will make it a point that he remembers her this time. With Carter's undisguised shock at suddenly finding out he has a four-year-old son and Claire's panic that her stretch marks and slim-to-none bedroom experience will send the man of her dreams heading for the hills, the pair will do whatever they can to get their happily ever after.

Very funny and light listen. Not a lot happens in the book. It's basically just a plain enjoyable romance. I will say the vagina jokes got really, really old. I think I'd expect more plot for a credit but I got it on sale and I'm very happy with it for a funny laugh out loud light listen.

I'm still sort of in shock. First, thank you Recorded Books and audible for getting this up same day as the national release.

Now, OMG! The Andrews team have REALLY upped the bar on this series and it was at the top of it's genre going in. We have LOTS of new information, some answers and a few very interesting new characters. The mythology gets more intense and complicated. This story is a departure from the "case" based plots we've had up till now. It pretty much hits the ground as adventure from page one. You're going to see nearly all the favorite secondary cast. This series just gets more amazing each book.

Hint though, be sure to have tissues handy, it's a hard ride and there are some bad things that happen.

As always Renee Raudman does a perfect job.

The daughter of a scandalous mother, Delilah Drummond is already notorious, even among Paris society. But her latest scandal is big enough to make even her oft-married mother blanch. Delilah is exiled to Kenya and her favorite stepfather's savanna manor house until gossip subsides. Fairlight is the crumbling, sun-bleached skeleton of a faded African dream, a world where dissolute expats are bolstered by gin and jazz records, cigarettes and safaris. As mistress of this wasted estate, Delilah falls into the decadent pleasures of society.

I think the Lady Julia Grey novels are brilliant. This book had NONE of the wonderful aspects of those books. What came to mind in this book was the movie Out of Africa. It was well written but frankly boring, not one of the characters was likable. If you are reading this because of enjoying the Lady Julia Grey novels this is NOTHING like those at all. Very disappointed to say the least. I did the whispersinc ebook/audio. The audio reader, Nicola Barber was excellent but the material was lacking.

Lena Todd is the perfect spy. Nobody suspects the flirtatious debutante could be a rebel against London's vicious elite - not even the ruthless Will Carver, the one man she can't twist around her little finger. Will Carver is more than man, he's a verwolfen and he wants nothing to do with the dangerous beauty who drives him to the very edge of control. But when he finds Lena in possession of a coded letter, he realizes she's in a world of trouble. To protect her, he'll have to seduce the truth from her before it's too late.

I had read the others in this series, bk1 and the novellas. I enjoy the worldbuilding. Bk 1 is pretty good but I didn't really like Lena in the first book and she's no better in this book. She has quite a few too stupid to live moments. It's very hard to like her. I think this view is sadly enhanced with a poor match for reader. Alison Larkin's voice for Lena is quiet whiny. I also dislike her voices {and there are many} for Will. She struggles with Will's growl voices.

I'm sorry to say, this installment was very disappointing and I feel like the entire series should be read instead of audio.

Mary Alice Brannigan doesn’t believe in the supernatural. Nor does she expect to find that Dreamland, the decaying amusement park she’s been hired to restore, is a prison for the five Untouchables, the most powerful demons in the history of the world. Plus, there’s a guy she’s falling hard for, and there’s something about him that’s not quite right.
