Awesome series. There were a few zombie twists/scenes that were unexpected and nothing was really cliche. Characters were believable. I swear I'm still laughing at the exchange between Sara & her stoner boyfriend in the back of the pickup truck. "Dude you totally farted and it was girl fart" I'm telling you Fred Berman could be on a stage somewhere. He's good!
I mean I swear I listen to alot of books and this is the first one where the material, the scene setup & the presenter made me laugh outloud!
I actually liked both of the books in the series and was pleasantly surprised by that. I LOVE the way the authors set up a chapter so you know what's going to happen but you do NOT know the outcome. Talk about suspense! LOVE it!!!
If you're a walking dead, zombie, apocalypse or syfy fan you HAVE to get these books. I just wish there were more!
I had to start this three times before I started to get into it. "dramatizations" are not my thing. Man oh man am I glad I did. Download you will not be disappointed.
The whole series is about a group of survivor. New take on zombies but enough of the slow, rambling watch out for the hordes that it still draws you in. I love the fact that there's bad guys but it's not a constant run chase hide catch run chase hide catch. Bad guys are sometimes in the forefront sometimes just on everyone's mind. This is pretty much the most believable (if there can be one) zombie apocalypse novel I've ever "read". Added touch? Our power lines went out in a storm while I was driving home from grocery. I literally pulled over & just listened for 10 mins. WOW.
Group soldiers, Michael, Saul and their sergeant? Angel (college boy given his post without earning it you get the feeling) . They are called in to base get there & the whole world turned upside down. The pickup friends along the way , eventually going to angel's girlfriends apartment building that is easily defended. They settle in. Soon other survivors come. WAY too much happens to give specifics but you will NOT be disappointed. I listened to the whole series One installment after the other. Just finished Season 4, main characters die, I laughed, I cry but EVERYTHING intertwines beautifully. Anything from this "author" I will purchase without even reading a review. THAT good. Now what the heck am I going to listen to grrrrrr
NEXT CLICK SHOULD BE TO BUY THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Took a break from zombies....just what I needed....demons. Loved it! Would have given it 5 stars but some parts were a bit of a cliche. Demon spawn, premise seemed allot like Rosemary's Baby. Pay a high price for deepest wishes, baby, promotion etc. Right down to the eccentric neighbors who intrude upon the protagonists lives. Baby conceived, was the husband (or Rosemary) dreaming or was there really a "monster" there. Wake up the next morning (though "how" the baby was conceived was a nice twist) with unexplained injuries......nope still just a dream. Difficult pregnancy blah blah blah. BUT Narrator did an EXCELLENT job, there were some really good twists and the characters/ story was nicely written. I would definitely give it a try! Should have been listed in Horror though instead of sci fi.............off to see what else the author has written!
This isn't even worth my time writing a review. Yuck just yuck just yuck. The story Had awesome potential but the author clearly needs to take a class or two.
Killer doll on the highway with a madman for a creator. Collects "friends" for the creator to torture.
Cliche. No suspense. Dry delivery. Poor writing. Please don't waste your time. I could do a better job and I would get rejected for a child's board book!
This pretty much sums it up.............
Nina won't tell Mikey something that happened on a scavenging run, He gets angry because she doesn't trust him enough to tell him what is bothering her...........Nina gets mad at him & slaps him for not "just trusting her". oh good grief! She is the whiniest, bitchiest, most selfish heroine I've ran across yet. If she was a bada$$ I could see the author justifying it. But she's not.
It would be a pretty good story if there was another lead character. Picks up where last book left off. They escape the bad guys and search for a safe place to call home all the while fighting zombies.
Their little dwindling group finds a great compound that isn't a dictatorship but Nina discovers a horrible secret of one of the inhabitants.
I have to put my nano down & give myself a break from her. OMG just cannot take it. Narrator does a good job. She's not the problem. The author has mistaken strength, perseverance and determination with annoyance, selfishness and stubbornness!
Great characters, awesome plot, truly a suspenseful horror novel. Koontz has a prologue saying he needed to write something "lighter" after some of his darker novels and he loves the humor in this book. There's no humor - it's definitely lighter - no humor though.
Tommy came with his family on a boat from vietnamese when he was eight. His parents are concerned that he is a novelist instead of working in family bakery with his two older brothers. They blame him for his younger sister eloping with a magician....he's a bad example. He's riddled with guilt and his mother poors the guilt on thick!! He yearns to be nothing but American - NOT Vietnamese American.
He receives a doll that turns about to be a demon that changes as the night goes on. Tick Tock..........he has until dawn, the demon will chase & try to kill him until dawn.
Luckily he meets a screwball waitress that turns out to be more than she seems! The two of them try to survive the night without being killed!
Narration is amazing. I actually read this book, listened to it and spent a credit on a book I've "read" twice. It's that good! I loved it!
This is a great concept. I thought it would be a little ridiculous but the way the author presented the "reading other people's thoughts" was actually clever & not at all predictable. The only problem I had with it was the monotony of the whole running, chasing, catching and escaping. I mean really? Two really bad guys & they catch the kids (main characters Todd & Viola) at least three times each. Todd is not able to kill them so they tie them up or injure them and keep running. REPEAT. Bad guys chase, catch the kids, the kids can't kill them and they get away only to be caught later on. it gets REALLY REALLY old. narrator awesome as ever.
I read the free prequel first and I'm glad I did. The story starts with the prequel. A girl named Viola on a scouting/settling ship with her parents to a "new world". She was raised on a ship. They crash. Book one.........Todd lives on New world where every man can read the thoughts of other men. They can also hear animals. Todd has an annoying dog, though loyal, named Manchee. We learn his parents are dead & he was being raised by Ben & Kilian (though I don't know if Kilian is Ben's lover, brother, son or what). Todd is the last boy in his town called printisstown. At 13 boys become "Men" and stop talking to other boys so he as no friends. One day he catches "silence" in the swamp after being attacked by maniacal priest Erin for not being home doing chores. He tries to make it home without anyone in the town knowing he heard (or didn't hear) something. Whole town of crazy, mean men. NO women. We learn they were all killed by the "Spackle". the alien race that are a primitive humanoid species. Ben /Kilian go crazy upon learning of the silence in the swamp & chaos ensues. They get a backpack with provisions give Todd a knife and his mothers journal telling him he is in great danger & to leave now. There's another settlement. He has been lied to his whole life. Prentisstown is not the only settlement on New World. He reluctantly leaves and that's when all Hell breaks loose. he finds the silence............a girl named Viola. Turns out you cannot hear women's thoughts on the planet. Just men. For whatever reason during the initial war with the Spackle that killed all the women on the planet - the silence germ that the spackle released killed all the women & made the men capable of everyone reading their minds. OR so he's been told..........The whole town turns on Ben & Kiliean & begin to chase Todd who saves Viola from Erin, the evil priest. Viola & Todd search for the new settlement and learn allot more than they bargained for. Definitely worth the credit but I swear if the second book doesn't stop this continuous, monotonous run/capture sequence I'm going to ask for a credit back for book 2. But I'll give it a chance!!!
I honestly couldn't get past the first chapter. WHO is this narrator. Yuck. Just listen to the sample good grief. I should have. I relied on the past reviews. BIG mistake. She sings the last word / draws it out......of EVERY single sentence. It gets old. If she did it for one character I could handle it - but no. She drags out/ sings the last word for every character. It is not only annoying but distracting as he77. I'm actually requesting my credit back - it is that bad!
descent story about four kids on a deserted Florida Key for weekend romp when government experiment ruins it. Spiders & flies. Follows someone back to the mainland where they devour their human hosts etc. So So story & worth the credit but be warned this is one weird narrator. Any "an" that sounds like Hand comes out ain so Hand is Haind, Sand is Saind, Plan is Plain Ran is Rain where the heck does he come from? This WEIRD pronunciation quirk is heavy & throughout the book. Drove me nuts! Bottom line, descent horror novel if you can stand a quirkly weird narration!
All for killing main character when it makes sense..............This one doesn't. Some times it makes sense to kill off a main character so the others can come to the forefront and grow. In the last book we spent the entire thing longing for certain people & struggling to get to them. . All is well for awhile but there is not a happy ending. There were 5 other main characters that the author could have killed off that would have left a huge hole in Cassie's heart and changed how she grows & acts. The one killed off made no sense. I stopped listening. The narrator is awesome as usual.
OMG this lady needs to find another career. I would do a better job and trust me when I say that is saying allot. I would not even like her reading children's books. She's THAT BAD. No emotions, dull, monotone and I swear I checked twice to make certain I wasn't listening in slow mo. Nope just the worlds worst narrator. Seriously 1200+ audio books (no tv for me I listen to books) and I can honestly say this lady was the absolute worst! The author turned me off from the beginning as well. He spends a huge amount of time telling people not to give away the book, download extra copies, if you want to give it to someone purchase another copy blah blah blah. What little bit that I listened to wasn't bottom of the barrel just so so. Husband does the unthinkable, wife & daughter move away to small mountain town for a fresh start. Every word out of the mother's mouth to her 15 year old daughter is honey, sweetie, sweetheart, baby and munchkin......yes she calls her 15 year old munchkin. No wonder she plays with a ouja board lol. Don't wast your time. You'll be cringing. The printed copy may be worth it but audio................NO!
