"Not what I expected, but ended up being a great bo"
I did not read the description of this book closely enough and thought it was your standard post-apocalypse book, but its not. It does have a story that runs along that line; however, this more about the author describing how he learned his unique survival skills necessary to survive the apocalypse.
At first, I was mildly annoyed, but kept listening as I was mildly interested. The more I listened the more I liked it.
This book will truly teach you the skills to survive the apocalypse, or even a Katrina. Lots of really good information reduced to the real skills and info you need.
The main character, obviously.
Really kept the book fast paced and conversational..
Must read for any preper or post apoc. aficionado.
"Interesting characters and concepts"
Post-Apocalypse future America
I enjoyed the fighting scenes especially with the genetically altered war animal. Creates a very believable future America with it's roots in today's intolerance (both left and right).
Does a good job of separating the characters, given them there own voice
No, but I was constantly thinking about it when I wasn't listening to it.
"Great introduction to war in Afghanistan."
Yes, I would listen to this again. It's a very complex and interesting story of brave men and women willing to sacrifice for there country. This novel is also great at understanding the cultural differences and how our soldiers tried to win this war.
Book almost reads like fiction, very interesting and easy to get into. The stories of family and friends finding out someone has died was heartbreaking, but necessary. I feel I understand at least a little of how these guys have suffered for this country.
He has a very conversational style about how he reads the book. I can imagine the soldier standing in front of me repeating what he has said.
The lengths we went to to avoid fighting with the afghans, counterinsurgency, etc.
"Grew to hate this book the longer it went on"
This would appeal to people who like right wing politics and pulp sci-fi
No, but I won't buy the rest of the series
Yes, did a very good job
All of the right wing politics
