On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

I haven't been happy with Stephen King's books for quite a while, but this one is excellent. Craig Wasson is an incredible narrator. I listen at work, so I need to re-listen to audiobooks a few times to get the whole story. This is a plus for this book. I loved it!

First, the unthinkable: a security breach at a secret U.S. government facility unleashes the monstrous product of a chilling military experiment. Then, the unspeakable: a night of chaos and carnage gives way to sunrise on a nation, and ultimately a world, forever altered. All that remains for the stunned survivors is the long fight ahead and a future ruled by fear—of darkness, of death, of a fate far worse.

I read this book, and loved it. The audio version was impossible to get through. The male narrator is annoying, whiny, and sounds like a three year old that hasn't had a nap. I wanted to send him to his room the entire time I listened to him. It's too bad, because I think it's a good story.

Deep in the stacks of Oxford's Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library.

I am not sure what I didn't like about this audiobook, the story was fine, if a little ripped off from Twilight, and the characters were somewhat interesting. I think it was the narrator's accents that I found grating. If I had read this instead of listening, I may have liked it better. It seemed a little contrived, and thoroughly unoriginal.

You are about to travel to Edgecombe St. Mary, a small village in the English countryside filled with rolling hills, thatched cottages, and a cast of characters both hilariously original and as familiar as the members of your own family. Among them is Major Ernest Pettigrew (retired), the unlikely hero of Helen Simonson's wondrous debut. Wry, courtly, opinionated, and completely endearing, Major Pettigrew is one of the most indelible characters in contemporary fiction.

I generally don't like books based in England, or english accents, for that matter. I totally loved this one though! The upper crust clenched jaw of the Major is perfect! It was a great listen!

Larry Ott and Silas “32” Jones were unlikely boyhood friends. Larry was the child of lower middle-class white parents, Silas the son of a poor, single, black mother - their worlds as different as night and day. Yet a special bond developed between them in Chabot, Mississippi. But within a few years, tragedy struck. In high school, a girl who lived up the road from Larry had gone to the drive-in movie with him and nobody had seen her again.

Ann says: "Excellent story, terrific narrator."
    "Great book"
    Overall

I loved this book! The narration was perfectly done, and I was immediately sucked in to the story. I felt terrible for Larry, waiting for absolution that never came. I actually teared up in some of the parts of his story. I recommend this book!
