Layken Cohen isn't your typical 18-year-old. After the recent death of her father, she is forced to be the rock for both her mother and younger brother. Outwardly, she appears resilient and tenacious, but inwardly, she's slowly losing hope. Enter Will Cooper: The 21-year-old new neighbor with an intriguing passion for performing "Slams". Will and Layken immediately form an intense and emotional connection neither of them knew they needed until it was found.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The story was good enough. Unfortunately, the narration (and the quality of the recording) was horrible.

What didn’t you like about Heidi Baker’s performance?

Layken and her family were from Texas. There was no attempt at an accent so when a character said "y'all" (which was quite often) it sounded totally ridiculous.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Maybe. It read like a lifetime movie.

While others focus the investigation on Lucas's estranged wife, Sarah disagrees.

    What disappointed you about Singularity?

The recording itself. After 2 hours I had to stop listening. It was full of static and echoed.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Anything

Would you be willing to try another one of Debbie Andreen’s performances?

Not if it's recorded in a basement again.

Would you try another book from Steven Konkoly and/or Joseph Morton?

Possibly. I think I would have enjoyed the book more of there was a different narrator.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

    I felt cheated.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Joseph Morton?

    Grover Gardner

Was The Jakarta Pandemic worth the listening time?

It was entertaining enough. But the narration made it very difficult to get through. There was no emotion in his voice.

Would you try another book from E. L. James and/or Becca Battoe?

    Absolutely not!

What was most disappointing about E. L. James’s story?

I couldn't get past the narrator. She was awful. I had to stop at the 2nd chapter.

What didn’t you like about Becca Battoe’s performance?

    Everything

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    No

    Any additional comments?

Try paperback. Narration is painful to listen to.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

Where does Gone Girl rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

So far one of my favorites. The narrators did an incredible job. I loved how the author really made you feel sorry for diary Amy and could then make you despise psycho bitch Amy.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Absolutely! But if I tell too much of why I enjoyed the plot so much, it will give away the story.

What does Julia Whelan and Kirby Heyborne bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Julia does a wonderful job capturing Amy's "personalities".

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I loved the narrator in the other books. She sounded spunky and funny. Even though it was the same narrator she sounded much different. Sookie didn't sound like Sookie. She sounded...bored. And the editing was awful! You could hear her breathing and swallowing throughout the entire book. Hopefully, this won't happen in future books.

I may have enjoyed the book if it was a different narrator. However, the narrator was awful and I dreaded listening to her and her whiney voice. I couldn't wait for the book to end so I could move on to something else.

    "Abridged version"
    Overall

The first half of the book was great. It kept me interested and wanting more. Then came the second half. It was almost like trying to put two books into one. I finished listening to it only because I already devoted so much time.

I agree with the review that said if there is an abridged version try that.
