I re-read this in preparation to read his new sequel. Read it last when it first came out - totally forgot that this man can really write. Even knowing the ending, I was absolutely riveted. He turns a beautiful phrase and really has characters you feel you know. Wonderful narration too. You won't be disappointed.

I've listened to at least 100 audiobooks, and I'm not sure what the issue people have with the narrator. Take the plunge if the topic interests you and you listen a lot - I don't think the narrator is what people didn't like about the book.

As noted in a review for Lush Life, Wire fans will recognize themes and richly drawn, nuanced characters (even names are recycled - Omar, Butchie) from the two novels available on audible.com. Both are narrated beautifully, and I thought Samaritan was even better than Lush Life.

I thought this was an exceptionally good audiobook. Great, fascinating plot that grips you, fascinating characters, excellent narration. Yes, you should be prepared to go back and forth in time, as you can tell from the book description, but it always marks a time change with a new chapter and/or music that breaks it up, and I did not find it difficult to follow at all. Very highly recommended.

This book showed up on so many best-of-2006 lists. It's unlike anything you've read,perhaps a bit of a thinking woman's Silence of the Lambs? Creepy but astonishingly smart and beautifully written and very compelling. Can't wait for her next book.

I'm baffled by the negative reviews. This is classic 4 to 5 stars Hiaasen read by an excellent narrator. I couldn't get off the treadmill because I didn't want to turn off my ipod. Perhaps it's not his best, but even on a bad day, Hiaasen is in his own category. I predict you'll like it.

I was disappointed. The writing is lovely, and the ways in which the characters come together and overlap is clever and poignant. However, the structure of pulling a million threads together works better when the reader can physically flip back in a book and remind herself who is who and what is what. Also, the editing was simply awful, as major scene shifts occurred without the narrator taking a breath. You went from character B finishing a sentence he was saying to character A, and without an visual or auditory warning, charcter C and D pick up instantly. VERY annoying. I liked it enough to want to read rather than listen to it.
