I have mixed feelings about this book. I am a big Picoult fan though I have to admit at times she is hit or miss with me. I think this one sorta fell into the middle.
The story was interesting and quite hard to hear a lot of times. I read tons of true crime and bloody books but even for me the descriptions in this book were very graphic. I think it affected me so deeply because it happened, written in a fiction book but still true, horrid, unbelievable facts that happened to human beings. Impossible to wrap your mind around.
I have to say I did not care too much for Sage or Minka. I know I am in the minority but Sage was a bit too pompous for me and Minka, while I agree that what she endured and lived though was terrible, to me, she seemed a bit too full of herself, the hero, the story writer who could save herself with her stories. I did enjoy the friendship between her and Daria, in that relationship she was much more likeable.
My favorite character was Leo. He was the most honest one in the book. I wish he had a tad more sympathy but it is understandable why he did not. I would have liked more information on how his relationship with Sage wound up.
The ending while predictable was also a wee bit confusing for me as to the why of the whole thing. I guess it sounds like I didn't enjoy the book but I did. The narration was good and the plot definitely holds your attention. It is worth reading.
Yes and no. While there were some interesting parts that were like hearing a good spooky ghost story the book itself was not so great. For me it felt like the Warrens, particularly Mr. Warren was just spouting his greatness. The narrator was awesome and the best part of the book.
No. It was not a good enough book for me to recommend.
I had no favorites.
Nothing really resonated with me about this book. I would have to say the setting is what I loved.
I enjoyed his narration but it was not nearly as good as Tim Gerard Reynolds from A Faithful Place which was my all time favorite book mostly due to his narration.
No, I rarely listed or read books twice.
Yes I would. For a freebie I thought it was pretty good.
I thought he was a good narrator. He kept my attention.
A cheesy mystery with little character development but still a decent listen for a freebie.
Faithful Place was a most enjoyable book. I believe the narrator had everything to do with this but of course a great plot helped.
The relationship between Frank, his daughter and his ex-wife. I enjoyed reading about a family that was able to get along even after a divorce and keep what is best for the child foremost in their minds.
I loved the entire book.
I laughed in many places. While at times it was sad, I never did cry.
I think this is Tana French at her best. And Tim Gerard Reynolds was one of the best narrators that I have listened to. I am going in search of more from him.
A GREAT BOOK
I did not have a favorite. I enjoyed all of the characters and how they interacted with each other. There were times that Cathy got on my nerves and other times where I was cheering her on.
I absolutely loved the accent of Karen Cass. It make listening so enjoyable. Usually I have problems when it is a female narrator but not this time.
The entire book moved me. For different reasons at different times. It moved me to anger when Cathy put up with the crap that she did, then it managed to move to to compassion and understanding of why and on to excitement when things were coming to a head!
This was one of the best audio books that I have listened to. I believe it would not have had the same impact on me had I read it in print. The author did a wonderful job of taking up into the life of a person with OCD. She explained how she got there, how the disease was overtaking her life and how she managed to take the steps to overcome it.
All of this was wrapped in a very intense story of abuse, love, trust, betrayal and unexpected humor to break it all up. I highly recommend this book for lovers of psychological suspense.
No, it was quite boring compared to the first in the series.
It was not at all believable.
The narrator was fine, she just did not have a good book to narrate.
I never read the print version but the narration was wonderful and for me, brought the story alive.
Yes, I love James Herbert. This was the first time listening to an audio book by him.
I enjoyed the scene where Lily the psychic was there with the children watching everything that was going on as if she were there. It was a bit graphic and disturbing but really puts things in perspective.
Laugh if you want but it was when the dog came home. I don't want to go into any detail and spoil the story.
While this was not an excellent read it was an enjoyable one. It was not so much a spooky ghost story for me as it was feeling like I was part of the family and getting to know the characters. It was a nice escape read.
Six Years starts out with a bang and does not stop. I love books that pull me right in. I enjoyed the humor mixed in with the suspense.
The story was fast moving with characters that were like friends. I came up with numerous theories as to what was going on but didn't figure things out until the end. At times I found it a little hard to follow but that in no way took away from the enjoyment.
Scott Brick rocks. He is always tops in my opinion.
You think you know, but you don't.
Harlan Coben is one of my favorite authors and this book did not disappoint.
I picked this book based on all of the reviews which is not something that I normally pay attention to. It didn't appeal to me but I felt like I had to give it a go.
WOW, the characters are wonderful and their interaction for me was even better than the story going on. I came to feel like they were my extended dysfunctional family! I found it hard to stop listening.
As for the story, I am not sure. It held my attention. It was suspenseful but I found myself getting confused or lost a few times. That could very well just be me though.
Overall, I am glad I listened to this book. It was a nice change of pace for me.
