Research scientist Dr. Marina Singh is sent to Brazil to track down her former mentor, Dr. Annick Swenson, who seems to have disappeared in the Amazon while working on an extremely valuable new drug. The last person who was sent to find her died before he could complete his mission. Plagued by trepidation, Marina embarks on an odyssey into the insect-infested jungle in hopes of finding answers to the questions about her friend's death, her company's future, and her own past.

    Overall

This is the third and absolute best book I've read by Ann Patchett, in my opinion. She uses and combines words in such an amazing way! We are quickly pulled into the lives of these characters and this unique and amazing story. I give it top honors and I hated to see it end! Until this listen, I was not aware that one of my favorite actresses, Hope Davis, narrates audios, but she will now become one of my go-to narrators...she's terrific and never sounds like she is reading the story. I will hope for a sequel!

Kim Edwards now gives us the story of a woman's homecoming, a family secret, and the old house that holds the key to the true legacy of a family. At a crossroads in her life, Lucy Jarrett returns home from Japan, only to find herself haunted by her father's unresolved death a decade ago. Old longings stirred up by Keegan Fall, a local glass artist who was once her passionate first love, lead her into the unexpected. Late one night, as she paces the hallways of her family's rambling lakeside house, she discovers, locked in a window seat, a collection of objects that first appear to be useless curiosities, but soon reveal a deeper and more complex family past.

This reader is a favorite of mine - she can dramatize the story so that she never seems like a reader and adds an etherial quality to a very good story of a family history. I hated to reach the end.
