Yes, this book should be read by everyone to understand how arbitrary at best and corrupt at worst our criminal judicial system is. It was eye opening to see how far the prosecutors went to convict their chosen parties and to be right and how a case can be built from the top down.
I can not think of one I have heard that I would compare this book to. But I am certain the legal system is ripe with similar tales of corruption and lies.
That wouldn't be nice.
When the young men would not turn on the other boys in order to gain their freedom. They had more integrity than the educated idiots prosecuting them! Shows how intelligence does not correlate with character!
Listen to this book and you will know that justice is ofttimes a four letter word! Also, narrator voice is better suited for sing songy books of love and poetry not for a book so powerful.
Yes, I would have had a hard time reading it over listening.
When a man found the alleged corpse months before it was formally acknowledged.
I don't have a favorite scene, I think Jose did a great job of showing his side of the case. I suppose this is why he was hired;)
That Casey's parents were hiding something and to ths day I wonder why they were not more scrutinized.
Justice is not for the faint of heart, I am glad I have not had to play God in any such trial.
I loved the child like imagination along with Hill's ability to suck his reader in with strong characters and his ability to take you into the story.
Indian in the Cuboard, why I have no idea.
The main character of course, she reminded me of the girl out of Tabiitha Kings only novel, or the Girl with the Dragon tattoo.
Yes I had a hard time setting down my iPod.
Joe Hill is a talented writer, however his novel Horns is awful.
Just as elusive as the beginning.
Just about all the bs, if I was the editor I would assume people wanted to learn about Scientology not some child's narrative of parents that weren't home.
Scientology give us something tangible
Yes, good book about how we see what we want to see. Psychotic people come in all shapes, genders and sizes.
My favorite character was the poisoned husband because, although he was naive, he loved his family more than his own life. Kind of stupid but who doesn't love a seemingly selfless victim.
No I have not.
Yes. This would be a great movie. You wouldn't believe it was true.
Listen to this book and maybe if you get sick every time you eat a meal at home, you might suspect foul play before you end up half dead. But that might sound paranoid. Bet this victim wishes he had been wiser to the psychopathic mind.
In the 50%. Great Book about the purpose and place one can find for oneself even in the midst of what seems irreparable!
The deep love the parents had for their son and their long suffering attitude.
The voice of the serial killers. Great job with that.
It was difficult to put down but some parts were difficult to listen to when the killers were telling their stories through their letters.
This book leaves you feeling very aware of the menacing individuals in our society and so sad for the lives destroyed by these monsters!
Psychopaths are complicated
Probably would not recommend this book without disclaimers of the disturbing details in the book. I had to skip through whole sections that were too graphic to listen to.
He did a great job of voice changes for different characters.
That society creates these monsters who live amongst us and can blend in to the framework of family, church, etc.
This book was a bit hard to follow at times but overall very well done.
The Poisonwood Bible has what so many books are missing and that is the writer's unique ability to create art through words. The character's in this book were comical and loveable. The reason that I haven't rated it less than perfect is because the narrator and the book were not made for each other, but still one of my favorite books yet.
