"Fantastic! Beginner & I Loved It!"
I bought because of a top 100 books list. I did not expect to enjoy, and it was awesome! The early section explains to the novice what to expect, and the story follows exactly as outlined. The writer even tells which parts are tedious. The reader does a remarkable job. I have bought other Greek literature because of this experience. The Odyssey is even better, but read this first.
"Best One So Far"
Rich characters. Well researched. Excellent writing. Less violence and more character nuances.
"Well Written, Excellent Reseach"
Really interesting writing. If you are Catholic, elements will be hard to read. At the end of the book it hits a point where I had to suspend disbelief. Otherwise, it is a really solid, interesting book.
"Getting Better"
2nd book is better than the first. Character development is richer. Good research in the points he makes.
"Good characters and writing. Story up and down."
Parts of this book are really engaging, and others drag along. It is the first in the series. I downloaded the next and will review it.
"Read the Whole Series!"
Life in the world Martin creates is hard. Thus, it can be hard to read about. There is loads of loss and suffering, but there is also nobility and heroism. Very little is black and white. Most subjects are nuanced, and the story presents many sides for the reader to choose. These books are beautifully written and it is tough to decide which characters you love the most. Be warned that it is a brutal world where beloved characters are killed as easily as the despicable. I would not miss a single word of any of these books! Narrator is not perfect.
"Clancy Delivers Again!"
Really interesting story. Great insights about cyber threats to US security. As always, well researched and presented. Reader is good, not great.
"Very Good, but King has Better Books (Dark Tower)"
Grover Gardner does an excellent job. I really enjoyed the book, but it doesn't come close to Dark Tower series or lots of other books. This is worth reading, but I would put it on my second tier reading list. The concept is interesting and several of the characters are terrific. Really good, but not as good as Dark Tower series.
"Another Winner in the Mitch Rapp Series!"
Great read! Anything done by Guidall is worth listening to, and the whole Mitch Rapp series is a blast! I only wish Flynn would come out with more of them!
"Not a Great Book - Clearly First in Series"
Armand Schultz does a nice job with a poorly written book. I have read every book in the Scott Harvath series, but they don't come close to Mitch Rapp series or Tom Clancy's work. I read these when I can't find anything else for this genre. The Harvath series is like a blunt instrument, while the others are precision instruments. That said, I still read them. Among the Harvath series, this is the weakest. In fairness to Thor, the character was still being developed, and I don't think he was totally clear where he was going to take it. If you love this genre like I do, read it after you have exhausted everything else (including the other Harvath books). While I prefer to read stories in order, this one is pretty lame.
"Long, Wonderful Journey"
I love to find a long audible saga that I can fall away into. This is among the top of that list. Other sagas I have enjoyed: Dune series (Herbert) and Dark Tower series (King) are similar to Game of Thrones in that the span long period of time, involve quality research and are incredibly thought provoking. If you love a rich tale, you are in for a treat! My wife and I read at the same time and discussed the characters, our favorites, etc. We both felt enriched by the stories. The naration is very good, not great. Roy does a nice job, but changes voices and in one book it really screwed me up. Not everyone can be George Guidall. I would listen to him read the phone book! Enjoy!
