I LOVE Jeff Sharra books! I have all of his stuff that Audible carries! This one was ALMOST as good as his other ones. I found that the way the story was organized and flowed was just a bit confusing. After a while I got what he was doing and why, but it took a bit of patience for me. All and all this is still better than any other ‘historical fiction’ out there. I am looking forward to his next release! Get this book!
Yeah, this was good until I started doing some googe searches. He takes a lot of "artistic license" and his own interpretation of history. But I guess I have to cut him some slack, this book was apparently written in the mid 80's and since them there have probably been new research. So I will assume he was making the best assumption he could based on what he had at the time of this novel's writing. But the story was compelling and far from boring. Good book, just not great. Don't believe everything you read in it as "gospel truth".
Just not my cup of tea I guess. I was really thrown off by the prolific swearing all the time. It was also pretty sexually charged. (IMHO)
I LOVED the first book and I am a huge Nelson DeMille fan, but this one just didn't do it for me. It had a harder edge than the first book, but less action in my opinion. There was a lot of needless F-Bombs dropping too. It was just OK for me.
This was a solidly good book! Plenty of action and quite a bit of character development to give the story some good depth. Keep in mind that this author can jump around - all your questions get answered eventually in this book or the next.
I have really loved this series! This book was just as good as the previous ones.
This one was good, but there was a lot of needless junk in it. Too much hard sexual references and details for my tastes. The Author could have easily gotten the same ideas across without going into so much details. But the story and action were both good aside from the above caveats.
This one (in the series) has the feel of a set up for the rest of the books that come after it. On its own it is a good book, but if it is taken as a piece of the large picture of the series then it really keeps your interest. It still has some good action, mystery, and suspense. The characters introduced and developed end up playing key roles in the plots to come in future books. For these reasons, I have to take a starr off my review even though I loved the book. I love the series! If you like the 'Prince Roger' series by David Weber and John Ringo then you will love these too!
I really loved this one! I liked the character development which is more of a focus of this one. It still had plenty of action, drama, and suspense. Love the series! If you like the 'Prince Roger' series by David Weber and John Ringo then you will love these too!
I skipped all the previous novels in this series and picked it up cold from this one. Well this one set the hook. I really loved it! I liked the character development. I liked the action. I found some to detailed torture segments to be too detailed and I admit that on 2 or 3 occasions I fast forwarded because I could not take the hard core torture scenes (and I am an avid 24 series watcher). So that is the only reason I had to give this one 4 stars instead of 5. But all and all I really enjoyed this one and the books after this just got better and better. Love the series! If you like the 'Prince Roger' series by David Weber and John Ringo then you will love these too!
I am normally a big Orson Scott Card fan but this book just did not do a thing for me. I made it about half way through before calling it off. It turned out to be yet another formulaic ‘epic journey’ fantasy novel. Here is the formula: Under Estimated Main Character Long Journey Eccentric Characters picked up along the way = Arrival at the destination and each character is needed to ‘win the goal’. You know how it goes…The main character goes on a journey and picks up key characters along the way and when the little band arrives at the destination each character ends up being crucial to completing the mission. It just drug on and lacked creativity – I could see the plot devices coming from a mile away. Sorry Orson, but I have to give this one a single star rating.
