This is the first book in the William Monk series to which I have listened and I absolutely loved it. I intend to listen to as many of the series as I can. I enjoy Davina Porter's wonderful reading and accent which are perfect for this engaging Victorian novel. I am already involved with Nurse Latterly, Monk and the dashing lawyer, Oliver Rathbone and can't wait to meet them again.
The characters are so well developed and the narrator is excellent. I have listened to this book at least 30 times and i'm listening to it right now.
I just love the heroine and hero and the interaction between them. I love the way the hero respects his lady and stands up for her to all.
Everything! I don't think I'd like the book if I read it. It's her characters that make it excellent.
Mostly the dry humor of the dark knight and the way he reacts to the antics of those around him. It isn't a comedy but there are enough humerous responses to keep me coming back.
I think of myself as a fairly intelligent person but this book, named Mistique with characters like Hugh the Relentless, the bringer of storms, places like Rivenhall Manor and the fact it is a romance of the highest water has me in it's thrall. So wonderful!!
I don't have time to sit & read so the print version would be useless to me. PLUS there's Christopher Lane reading!!! I love his voice. It has a creepy quality and yet, he has a wonderful voice and does each character extremely well.
The rest of the series. The first book is read by Scott Brick, who always does an excellent job and the story is fascinating but I like Christopher Lane better for this book. It is a kind of creepy story and Lane is perfect. Book 5, the final in the series, was one of the best books I have ever read or listened to. Lane narrates the story of love, good vs evil, courage and one of the best descriptions of true love I've ever heard. I just don't think there could be a better book than the 5th but Koontz really outdoes himself on this series. He just became one of my favorite authors.
Deucalion, the original Frankenstein's monster is my favorite. They are all so good and each character has wonderful depth. Theres the kind & mistreated Erica 5, the quirky and extremely weird Jocko, Carson & Michael, the two detectives are very funny & witty - so many and so good.
Deucalion. Because he is so old, spiritual and enigmatic. He's powerful but gentle and due to spending over one hundred years in monasteries he would be fascinating to talk with.
I am blown-away by Dean Koontz's writing.
The narrator is wonderful and has a great way with sexy guy-voices. I'm surprised I've never heard her read. It's like listening to Anna Fields; you are able to forget there is a narrator and enjoy the great story.
Mel's great love for the grand old homes of the Bay Area, especially of San Francisco. It was a new insight to me to hear of the beautiful old homes and their history, and resulting tidbits of the history of the Bay Area. I was totally engrossed and enjoyed the story line. There is a perfect balance of humor, romance, technical information, GHOSTS, & character development (quite a few lovable characters, well developed). When read by such a great narrator, it is the best series I've read in a long while.
MORE, MORE, MORE!!!!!!!
Maybe. Probably not
It was the book that was bad
Why did I listen to the whole thing?
Don't waste your time
I listen to a lot of audiobooks and this is one of the very best. It's spiritual, funny, intelligent and entertaining. As most animal books, it has a few tear-jerker incidents but the ending makes up for any angst. Love, love, LOVE it!
This book didn't get 4 stars from me as I found it a tad depressing. It is funny and interesting and I love the characters but I could have done with a little less childhood angst and mistreatment. I enjoy the glimpse into life in England. One of my very favorite characters is Juliet, the demon, but I missed her voice in this book. The previous narrator gave her a deep, throaty voice that made everything she said really funny. Even when she said "Whhhaaat?" I could envision this beautiful, extremely dangerous demon without a clue about human thought, trying very hard to understand. I missed that with this narrator but everyone else sounded like they should. Overall, it is a fun series and very entertaining.
I started with this series because Anna Fields, just the best narrator in the world, narrated it. Then I was hooked and have enjoyed each book and the narrator. This last one is wonderful, full of suspense and totally engrosing. If you are looking for an engaging series with a tough & funny heroine this is it! Very well done, author & narrators!
I love Jack Reacher, Lee Child for creating him and Dick Hill for portraying him so well! Thank you all!
I can't imagine anyone else reading the In Death books. Susan Ericksen is great, in my opinion and, after what seems like tons of books in the series she IS the voice of Dallas, Roarke, Peabody (my favorite), the commander and everyone else. The stories are so entertaining and fun to listen to, I wish J.D. Robb could write more of them. When she writes as Nora Roberts, the books don't send me but this series is one of my very favorites.
Keri Arthur fills this story with the COOLEST supernatural beings and the dialog made me feel like I was really in the world they live in. The narrator has an Australian accent which is perfect as the story takes place there. Its a mystery, a romance and a fantasy with rich characters and an entertaining plot. There's some steamy scenes but not so many it detracts from the story. The heroine is a werewolf so it would be pretty "Twilight-ty" (bland) if there wasn't some sex! I would highly recommend this book and feel it was well worth the money and time.
