"Excellent audio commentry"
I have been to Paris about twice a year for the past five years as I just love the city and the people. This audio guide is fantastic. I have listened to it a couple of times now and I am not even due to leave for Paris for another three days! There is a drawback though - not in the guide but in the format which it is presented here. You have no clear idea where the walks are going to take you as you lack the important items the "real" guide has if you bought it from a shop - the illustrated maps. This is not a major problem though and I am getting over it by going though the guide once more with a city map to hand so I can note down the routes.
"Emotional journey"
This is a wonderfully written story of sacrifice, values and decency. You can't help but admire both of the main characters for what life throws at them and how they manage to carry on.
"Wanting more...."
I have just finished listening to this right after listening to the previousl book in the serious "Cut & Run".
I was very frustrated throughout this book - not by narrative but at the stupidity of the two main characters to not just say what they really felt about each other. That's a good thing for me to say though as I really cared for them and wanted they to simply admit that their relationship is far more than either was wanting to admit.
The setting for the story is good as they are in a way on a journey and having it set against a case like Cut & Run was would just not have worked.
I'm looking forward to the third in the series and hope Audible will carry it soon.
"Was dubious at first but I really enjoyed this!"
I was really dubious about this audiobook at first - I'm not really one for the modern crime style story. This story though is really engaging and after only a few chapters you really grow to like the two lead characters. They both have their issues and they thankfully these are not flung aside in preference for the more traditional "happy every after" ending.
The story is brutal at times and whilst there are sexual scenes these are done in a great way - the book is about two men who happen to be attracted to each other and not about sex in any case. If you want a simple boy meets boy, they fall in love and that's it then you will find this hard going. If you want a book that explores how two men who deal with feelings they have for each other then this is great audiobook.
"Very disappointing"
I only bought this abridged version as audible do not seem to carry the unabridged version of A Crown of Swords. After the excellent Random House versions which created such a wonderful atmosphere I am very disappointed in this recording. The narrator has a monotone voice and when he does emphasize phrases it is all in the wrong place thus making the whole listening experience a drag. The only good thing I can say is it is only 6 hours long so you do not have to endure it for too long!
