Before the Great Wars and the Old Race of Man, there was a world populated by different beings: elves, demons, faeries, and the like. The Elves and the Demons constantly fought each other, until the Elves finally imprisoned them with the enchanted tree called the Ellcrys. Thousands of years later the Ellcrys still survives and still keeps the Demons imprisoned within the Spell of Forbidding, but not for much longer, the Ellcrys is dying.

What made the experience of listening to The Elfstones of Shannara the most enjoyable?

The story. While it did drag in a few spots I really appreciate the example of self sacrifice that many of the characters make for the greater good.

What other book might you compare The Elfstones of Shannara to and why?

Lord of the Rings trilogy for sure. The influence is obvious in many parts but still an enjoyable book.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

He was kind of whiny in some parts when speaking dialog.

Fans of the Shannara epic will revel as the forces of good battle an evil book, the Ildatch, which sends the Mord Wraiths to destroy mankind. To overcome this dark force, the Druid Allanon needs Brin Ohmsford, for she holds the power of the wishsong, a magic invoked by singing that can make plants bloom instantly or turn trees from green to autumn gold.

Kenneth says: "Great book and Great reader"

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book and have already to my wife. The third book in the original trilogy is the best of them all. Once again, the author gives us memorable characters doing heroic, selfless things. Slanter is by far my favorite character so far in all the books.

What other book might you compare The Wishsong of Shannara to and why?

Lord of the Rings books. The influence is quite evident here.

Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?

    Slanter. Awesome character.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Sure, if I had 20 hours to kill.

    Any additional comments?

Listen to this book and enjoy the great characters.
