He is the master of seemingly all dialects, Australian, South African, German, Irish, Chicago, New York, Canadian, the list goes on.
Watching Jack grow from childhood to senior citizen and all of his adventures was spellbinding. I am truly sorry we are at the end of Courtenay's books. What a gifted storyteller.
The author's in depth research and the way he addressed so many topics relating to the war. The war in Asia, Russia, Great Britain, Southeast Asia, Japan, the air phase, weaponry, Naval warfare (on the water, below the surface and naval aviation), the effects of war on the citizens of the countries at war; all of these topics are examined in a way we haven't seen previously
I liked the way he personalized so many events. His research must have uncovered personal diaries and letters. His quotes of those involved brought the event to life.I also enjoyed his analysis of phases of the war and how today the view of WWII personalities varies from the immediate post war view.
For those that enjoy lengthy detailed stories as I do, this book will capture you. Max Hastings brings history to light.
Absolutely! Excellent insight to the African continet and the various other colonial and Arabic powers
The caravan sloughing into the African interior contending with the various occupants, elements and rigors of the trek.
The couple times where Stanley's indomitable will purshed the others beyond their own expectations
I thoroughly enjoyed the book in it's detail, dialogue, and cast of characters.
His previous novels did not have as much dialogue and were packed with history and action.
Not so much the genre as the authors books. I really enjoyed Shogun and King Rat this was a major disappointment.
His accents and dialects
I will pay more attention to the reviews of his books in the future.
Good insight to a campaign of Worlr war II that has not received as much coverage as the European campaign
The Casablanca meeting
The book has me wanting more information, more detail about the campaign
I never read the print edition
The visuals painted by the author
Yes, he is excellent. This is comprable to what I have listened to from him before.
No extreme reaction. Some of the tales made me cringe from the brutality
I thoroughly enjoy lenghty in depth character development and this book definitly fits that description.
The story was too plotting.
The story moved slowly. It reads like a 1950's WWII spy novel. Just so-so.
