From one of our most powerful writers, a work of stunning frankness about losing a daughter. Richly textured with bits of her own childhood and married life with her husband, John Gregory Dunne, and daughter, Quintana Roo, this new book by Joan Didion examines her thoughts, fears, and doubts regarding having children, illness, and growing old.

Eva never really wanted to be a mother - and certainly not the mother of a boy who ends up murdering seven of his fellow high school students, a cafeteria worker, and a much-adored teacher who tried to befriend him, all two days before his 16th birthday. Now, two years later, it is time for her to come to terms with marriage, career, family, parenthood, and Kevin’s horrific rampage, in a series of startlingly direct correspondences with her estranged husband, Franklin.

Would you try another book from Lionel Shriver and/or Coleen Marlo?

    Yes

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

It was hard to connect with the mother in this story.

What about Coleen Marlo’s performance did you like?

    Well read.

Was We Need to Talk About Kevin worth the listening time?

    Yes.

    Any additional comments?

There are lots of Kevin's in our society and all of them have mothers. It's a dark, at times too dark for me, story.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

If you like German voices maybe you'll have better luck with this reader.

If you’ve listened to books by Christiane Turner before, how does this one compare?

The information about NLP is good.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

It's hard to understand due to the narrator. I could never relax and listen.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I really like NLP and am glad Audible put a title about it in the collection. Next time I hope the reader is better.

    Any additional comments?

More NLP please, less heavy accented readers.

  • Bringing Up Bebe: One American Mother Discovers the Wisdom of French Parenting

The secret behind France's astonishingly well-behaved children is here. When American journalist Pamela Druckerman has a baby in Paris, she doesn't aspire to become a "French parent". French parenting isn't a known thing, like French fashion or French cheese. Even French parents themselves insist they aren't doing anything special. But French children are far better behaved and more in command of themselves than American kids....

    Story
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book made me laugh. My daughter is 11 months old and I read most of it while juggleing her from place to place. Well written and funny. I gave it to my sisters.

What did you like best about this story?

The writer is honest and also adds in a lot of facts about France- I learned a lot along my audio journey.

What insight do you think you’ll apply from Bringing Up Bebe?

To moms: trust yourself. You know more than both you and the oober mommy culture think you do.

    Any additional comments?

This is the first book on parenting I've enjoyed reading... Come to think of it, it's the first book on parenting I've actually managed to finish. This book made me feel both hopeful and amused.
