"Dull"
The reader does the best she can with the material, but it is as if she were reading a textbook. As far as the material is concerned, it presumes that the listener will be familiar with places and naming conventions based on a brief disclaimer in the preface. I really wanted to finish this book, but only got about half way through the second part of the three part download before giving up.
"Distracting narration"
If you like stories about psychics or paranormal stuff, you would probably like this. I had picked up a book by Kay Hooper one summer as a beach read. While I likes it, I felt like I was missing too much back story, so I decided to start with the first novel, Stealing Shadows. While the first novel in a series, it is a stand-alone story that does not leave the reader / listener thinking that a sequel is required to finish the story. I liked that.
Nothing really comes to mind.
For me, the narrator definitely distracted from the book. While she did a good job with the voices, the microphone was too close to her mouth so I could hear her breath intakes and lips smacking. Very annoying.

"I was entertained"
I thought the book was pretty good. While not a literary masterpiece, it was fast moving and kept my interest.
"Extremely disturbing"
This book was exceptional and I highly recommend it. It is a quick paced story with interesting characters, and is not heavy-handed about political messages.
