The Return of the King is the towering climax to J. R. R. Tolkien’s trilogy that tells the saga of the hobbits of Middle-earth and the great War of the Rings. In this concluding volume, Frodo and Sam make a terrible journey to the heart of the Land of the Shadow in a final reckoning with the power of Sauron. In addition to narrating the prose passages, Rob Inglis sings the trilogy’s songs and poems a capella, using melodies composed by Inglis and Claudia Howard, the Recorded Books studio director.

What more can I say about this story that hasn't been said a thousand times? I mean, other than listening to the audio version of the story made me realize how often I just skip over the various and sundry songs when reading...

  • Bad Astronomy: Misconceptions and Misuses Revealed, from Astrology to the Moon Landing 'Hoax'

Dr. Philip C. Plait sets the record straight on many modern hoaxes and myths. Appalled that millions of Americans don't believe in the moon landing, or that an egg stands on its end only on the vernal equinox, Plait hilariously spills the truth and informs us of scientific inaccuracies in our everyday vernacular.

There is so much misunderstanding, misinformation, and disinformation on these issues that this book should be a required text in the public education system. An outstanding book - I am shocked at how often I refer to it in conversations.

It is not long before the survivors, outlaws, renegades, and carrion eaters start to gather, picking over the bones of the dead and fighting for the spoils of the soon-to-be dead. Now in the Seven Kingdoms, as the human crows assemble over a banquet of ashes, daring new plots and dangerous new alliances are formed, while surprising faces, some familiar, others only just appearing, are seen emerging from an ominous twilight of past struggles and chaos to take up the challenges ahead.

    Overall

Hey George, if you are like most red-blooded American men, you understand football metaphors well enough:

This book was a three-and-out. With the previous books you were able to sustain a drive (especially #3, way to mix up your calls!). This one - couldn't get the punter on to the field fast enough.

Losing focus? New editor? Cash grab? Hard to say, but it doesn't live up to the standards that have been set. It's time to buckle your chinstrap and move the chains!
