On his journey to Burma, Edgar encounters prophets and thieves, soldiers and tale-spinners, and an enchanting woman as elusive as the surgeon-major who owns the piano will turn out to be. I firmly believe that this young author's very first novel is, amazingly, one of the finest books that I have read in my fifty odd years of reading. It is already a best seller, and I am sure that,.. two hundred years hense, it will have become one of the first true classic works of our twenty-first century!
Be sure to read this unabridged rendering, as there is just too much to miss of this enchanting story!
If you are a musican, historian, beggerman, ...anything..leap into the wonderous debths of this majestic work!

For nearly a billion years, every known sentient species in the universe has been the result of genetic and cultural guidance - or "uplifting" - by a previously uplifted patron race. Then humans are discovered. Having already uplifted chimps and dolphins, humanity clearly qualifies as an intelligent species, but did they actually evolve their own intelligence, or did some mysterious patron race begin the process, then suddenly abandon Earth?

If you enjoy AC Clarke, Brim will thrill you. One of the greatest true science fiction writers I have read in the last 25 years.
His awards through the years are ssoooo well deserved. The more you are aquainted with real science, the more you will love Brim's works!

  • The Case for Democracy: The Power of Freedom to Overcome Tyranny and Terror

In this brilliantly analytical yet personal book, nondemocratic societies are put under a microscope to reveal the mechanics of tyranny that sustain them. In exposing the inner workings of a "fear society", the authors explain why democracy is not beyond any nation's reach, why it is essential for our security, and why there is much that can be done to promote it around the world.

Every American interested in justice and reason in our complicated world situation should read this book once a year.
The hero, (Author) Natan Sharansky, was a russian political prisoner for years, for trumped and totally false charges precipitated because he was a Russian of Jewish decent, who had the courage to speak out carefully for hman rights.
He has been active in Isreal since his release in 1986, and has been deeply involved in the peace efforts since that time. His insight and integrity are unimpeachable.
    This book is POWERFULLL!!
After reading just a bit, I stopped, and did an extensive internet search concerning his life, activities, and character...and,..I was rewarded and frankly tranfixed by his marvelous mind and moral integrity.
Please read this book. It is impossible to put down!
Simon Vance, the reader, happens to be the finest voice on audible to date..as well!
Simon really does read many of the finest books on the audible site.
Bless both the writer and the reader!

Simply put, I believe this is one of the finest pieces of fiction I have read for a long, long time. It is wonderful as an audio presentation, as it truly is a 'Story' as in 'Story telling'.
Mitch Albom,(as some may know, is a syndicated sports writer)and also the writer of 'Tuesdays at Morrie's'.
He has now written his first piece of fiction...and it is absolutely captivating, beautiful, and frankly.. profound!.
If you want to read a story that will captivate your mind, heart, and soul, read this book! ..as well as Mitch's other book 'Tuesdays at Morries' the books are both riviting. I Wish I could give it more than five votes!!

Now, in his new blockbuster, Goldberg goes even further. He not only takes on Big Journalism, but offers a twelve-step program to help the media elites overcome their addiction to bias.

Very good read, from a 'middle of the road' reader...
But..Ahem, Most Kind Audible folks, ..
two things are missing here, perhaps.

1.The unabridged version (always critical) for this type of non-fiction.

2.Book 1,"Bias" The NY # 1 best seller and precurser to this audio document.
(I have read both 'complete versions' and can guarentee the readers of this book that the impact and cohesiveness is greatly augmented by reading the former publication as well!

They are really a two part opus in content,.. and should definitely be assimilated in tandum.

    Thanks in advance, Audible!

On the morning that will mark the end of the world they have known, Molly and Neil Sloan awaken to the drumbeat of rain on their roof. It has haunted their sleep, invaded their dreams, and now they rise to find a luminous silvery downpour drenching their small California mountain town. A strange scent hangs faintly in the air, and the young couple cannot shake the sense of something wrong.

Jaimie says: "And the point was...?"
    "The BEST of Mr. Koontz"
    Overall

Gentle Reader, learn your literature, your philosophy, your history, your religions, folkways and moreways, and read this book, and those of you who 'just don't get it'... read it again, then realize the quality of the weave of human soul and mind in this magnus opus of Koontz.
This is surely one of the most well 'studied' works of Koontz's many books; rich in symbolism, with a structure that is marvelous and complete, and the message can reach the very core of... the rich man ...poor man..pagan,..priest..."forget about MOVIES" (quote to guide the message thrust of this book).
