...or perhaps because I'm not dreaming. I'm not sure exactly what the author was trying to get across but this wacky tale was not quite to my liking. If you were to dose, blindfold and hogtie a bunch of writers together (not to put any of these writers down -- perhaps Robert Anton Wilson, Philip K. Dick, William S. Burroughs, Terry Pratchet, Hunter S. Thompson) with a free hand each and only one pen tussling over the book to write...you might come out with something like this book and less pleasing than I'm making it sound.

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

Sorry to say but both the narration and the book reads like it was still in the draft stage and the author and editors gave up. Multiple editing problems with the audio and the reader needs more experience (her voices for the bad guys was just silly). At first I thought they'd spliced in a digital computer reader it sounded so artificial but I think it was just bad editing, cutting off her voice and splicing together disparate sounding parts of the same sentence. It was very distracting and took effort to concentrate on the story a number of times. I was also disappointed in the story, reading clearly like it was still in the draft stage and a bit juvenile. I have thoroughly enjoyed the series (though not so much the diatribe in the latter few books). I wish the author would have spent a bit more time polishing the story and would've helped if the readers from the previous books had read it (or anyone at all better).

Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer. Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries....

For years, people have feared that sexual material removed from victims of alien abductions might lead to the creation of something that modern science considers impossible: hybrids of the alien and the human. They would think like aliens, but appear human, and be able to do something that full-blooded aliens can't: walk the earth freely.

Some of the writing just made me cringe. It seemed like it was a failed script for a big action movie that wasn't fully fleshed out. I like books that have some semblance of credibility that you only have to partly suspend your disbelief. This wasn't one of those.

The final book in Philip K. Dick’s VALIS trilogy, The Transmigration of Timothy Archer brings the author’s search for the identity and nature of God to a close. The novel follows Bishop Timothy Archer as he travels to Israel, ostensibly to examine ancient scrolls bearing the words of Christ. But more importantly, this leads him to examine the decisions he made during his life and how they may have contributed to the suicides of his mistress and son.

Just didn't have the usual Philip K Dick cerebral twisting genius, could have though because there were interesting elements. Doesn't seem much to relate to the first book in the series which I enjoyed.

Awesome! One of the best series of books i've read/listened to and i've read quite a lot of fantasy & scifi. It is a must read for anyone even mildly interested in fantasy adventure.

Pleasssse...don't listen to the abridged volumes you will regret it. Also please request to audible that they get the rest of the series in Unabridged versions. I'm on my second reading and it's as good as the first.
