Dreamer and Weaver of Dreams - which means I like some fiction especially if it fits my world view: there is evil in the world and good must ALWAYS overcome it.

More than two decades have passed since the events chronicled in The Butlerian Jihad. The crusade against thinking robots has ground on for years, but the forces led by Serena Butler and Irbis Ginjo have made only slight gains; the human worlds grow weary of war, of the bloody, inconclusive swing from victory to defeat. Get ready for Dune: The Machine Crusade.

The only thing I can add to this wonderful series of stories is that I want the next one to arrive soon. This was full of so much rich detail and plot twists that I was held in its grasp as the much as any of the synchronized worlds of Omnius.

We colonized 700 planets. Humankind enjoyed the benefits of expansion room and the end of wars. We even disbanded our military. Then the Krall found us. The Krall have used thousands of years of combat to select the genes of the strongest and fastest warriors. They are a species determined to dominate the entire galaxy, through destruction and annihilation of every opponent.

Koban is an uninhabited high-gravity planet with impossibly fast savage animals, which employ organic superconducting nerves. This deadly world is where the Krall tested humans for war capability.

What made the experience of listening to Koban the most enjoyable?

The story itself was great and sweeping but the narrator diid not know how to pronounce words. I was also bothered by the vocal tics like ending sentences with an upward tone. Very disturbing and it nearly made me drop a very good story.

Would you be willing to try another one of Patrick Freeman’s performances?

Absolutely not! it was too annoying and I would make every effort to avoid any such recording.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes I would have - the plot was so interesting but the performance was not good.

    Any additional comments?

I would enjoy more from this author but not the narrator.

On the world called Hyperion, beyond the law of the Hegemony of Man, there waits the creature called the Shrike. There are those who worship it. There are those who fear it. And there are those who have vowed to destroy it. In the Valley of the Time Tombs, where huge, brooding structures move backward through time, the Shrike waits for them all.

If you could sum up Hyperion in three words, what would they be?

    Gripping riveting fiction

What did you like best about this story?

I actually learned to care about the multiple story lines and characters. They pushed me to run the entire series and learn the culmination of their narratives in the Great narrative. It reminded me of my own story and its relationship to the overall Epic that God is telling about existence.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

OH my the narrators! They are EVERYTHING! They open the world of other people's experiences to my own. They make the characters into people and the experiences into more than just words. My own head can really do a lot with that but when i am driving or working or need a break; when I am ready for bed.. they urge my mind into relaxation and into very sharp focus. They are the sauce that simmers the writer's work into .... what more can be said? Reality.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Oh Yes it would have been glorious but the anticipation of each session over time was more than rewarding.

    Any additional comments?

to like this you will need to like Sci-Fiction. To enjoy this you will need to love people. To know this you will need to listen.

  • Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

While Abraham Lincoln is widely lauded for saving a Union and freeing millions of slaves, his valiant fight against the forces of the undead has remained in the shadows for hundreds of years. That is, until Seth Grahame-Smith stumbled upon The Secret Journal of Abraham Lincoln, and became the first living person to lay eyes on it in more than 140 years.

    Story
What did you love best about Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter?

The story was so careful about the way it treated the character of Lincoln. It may seem absurd with the way it most certainly twists the story but this is a great tale! Lincoln is seen in his iconic best when it comes the truly historical parts and even in the absolute fiction he is Mr. Lincoln!

Who was your favorite character and why?

The main character was my favorite character. He is strong and yet full of pain and longsuffering patience. He aches to help and to encourage. He is exactly the person I always wanted to know as this wonderful president (except the vampires of course!).

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I thought the narration was on point 100% of the way.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Please read the book before you see the movie!

    Any additional comments?

The book was just a wonder and the film did much to cheapen the story yet Lincoln the character is so incredibly powerful he can press thru even a butchered script. The film is still worth seeing!!! that is amazing!
