Evreux, France, 1788: Before she is Zoey’s favorite professor and the House of Night’s powerful horse mistress…. Lenobia is just a normal 16-year-old girl – with enough problems to last a lifetime. As the illegitimate daughter of a powerful baron, she has never quite belonged, and instead has to watch her spoiled half-sister, Cecile, get anything she wants. As if that’s not enough, her remarkable beauty draws unwanted attention wherever she goes. For once, she would like to just fit in.

Would you try another book from P. C. Cast and Kristin Cast and/or Caitlin Davies?

Yes. I have enjoyed the house of night series and find Caitlin Davies to be a skilled narrator.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

    Predictable.

How could the performance have been better?

She seems to have one voice and one accent for people of color. Martin sounds exactly like Kramisha. And the French was not believable at all. I found it distracting. Her voice for Linobia and the general narration was fine. I don't think I could've listened to the whole thing if it were longer.

Was Lenobia's Vow worth the listening time?

Eh. It was cheap enough and I liked having some background on the characters from H.o.N.

    Any additional comments?

People did not seem genuine, but instead based on stereotypes. Not awful but could've been better.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Read the book. I had been counting down the days until this audiobook but I expected it would be read by Emily Shaffer alone like the other books. It was hard to listen to so I'm just reading the book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    I love Sydney and Adrian.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The guy who reads for Adrian's POV reads it very flat. Very flat. And his woman's voice for Sydney is AWFUL! Emily always gave Adrian a slightly English voice and he had more energy. I can't listen to this guy. I can't buy any emotion from him.

Did The Fiery Heart inspire you to do anything?

To read the book version and really appreciate male narrators who are dramatic.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, because it was fun and had romantic without cheese.

What did you like best about this story?

I can't pick out one thing. It was just good if you like the genre and want to listen to an enjoyable story.

What does Emily Shaffer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I like her voices for the characters. If I did read one of the books, I think I'd imagine those voices for the characters.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were a couple of "awww!" and "yay!"s

Where does A Perfect Blood rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book is toward the top. After listening to the previous books, I like how the characters are evolving.

What did you like best about this story?

It had everything I like in a book. I laughed at parts, I cried at parts. There was intense action. Character development. It made me not only like the book but appreciate the series more and look forward to where it was going.

In addition, Kim Harrison is very good about making you feel present in the scene and like you are having a conversation with the characters. The narration between dialog is exciting and full of personality.

What does Marguerite Gavin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She's an excellent narrator. I like the variance in voices. Plus she acts them out and does an excellent job putting emotion and action in the whole story, not just dialog. I think you wouldn't get as much of Rachel's personality by just reading it. I can't put my finger on it, but I'm glad I listened to it rather than read it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

oh yeah. I listen in the car on my commute and was actually hoping for traffic.

    Any additional comments?

The only down side is I wish there was less

"My love, speak to me. Tell me everything.” Neferet went to Kalona, kneeling before him, stroking the soft, dark wings that unfurled loosely around the immortal. “What would you have me say?” He didn’t meet her eyes. “Zoey lives.” Neferet’s voice was flat, cold, lifeless.“She does.”“Then you owe me the subservience of your immortal soul.” She started to walk away from him.“Where are you going? What will happen next?”

The first half of the book had so much cheese, Velveeta was jealous. I'm glad I stuck it out, though b/c the second half was awesome. I thought the narrator did a great job. I think the Casts are improving in their writing skills, save the very Harlequin Romance beginning. Plus, I like the return of a certain character whom I thought was poorly judged. Over all, it was really enjoyable and I can't wait til Nov!

So...you'd think after banishing an immortal being and a fallen High Priestess, saving Stark's life, biting Heath, getting a headache from Erik, and almost dying, Zoey Redbird would catch a break. Sadly, a break is not in the House of Night school forecast for the High Priestess in training and her gang. Juggling three guys is anything but a stress reliever, especially when one of them is a sexy Warrior who is so into protecting Zoey that he can sense her emotions.

    Overall

I have enjoyed the series so far because of the story, not as much the stellar writing. I won't belabor the point about the narrators although I agree w/ the previous reviews. The story did drag and could've been a chapter or two in another book. My biggest complaint is that when you want to get rid of a character by making him/her a jerk, you have to do more than just have all the characters all of a sudden after 4 other books to the contrary just up and start saying they are a jerk. And since when is it possessive to be mad at your significant other is kissing, and sleeping with other people?
