  • The Pirate Coast: Thomas Jefferson, The First Marines, and the Secret Mission of 1805

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 22 mins)
    • By Richard Zacks
    • Narrated By Raymond Todd

After Tripoli declared war on the United States in 1801, Barbary pirates captured 300 U.S. sailors and marines. President Jefferson sent navy squadrons to the Mediterranean, but he also authorized a secret mission to overthrow the government of Tripoli. He chose an unlikely diplomat, William Eaton, to lead the mission, but before Eaton departed, Jefferson grew wary of the affair and withdrew his support.

    Stewart Kennedy says: "EXCELLENT"

I am a huge fan of the Patrick O'Brian novels and have been looking for authors that write about that time period fiction or non fiction. This book hit the mark. It is well researched and well written. The authors meticulous research and writing style will lend itself well to educating future generations. He brings the story alive! The narrator is not the best (he is actually hard to listen to) but after you get into the story you do not notice or care.

  • The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 27 mins)
    • By Michael Lewis
    • Narrated By Jesse Boggs

Who understood the risk inherent in the assumption of ever-rising real-estate prices, a risk compounded daily by the creation of those arcane, artificial securities loosely based on piles of doubtful mortgages? Michael Lewis turns the inquiry on its head to create a fresh, character-driven narrative brimming with indignation and dark humor, a fitting sequel to his number-one best-selling Liar’s Poker.

Jill says: "Finally, I understand what happened!"
"I hope this book will bring sanity back!"
What made the experience of listening to The Big Short the most enjoyable?

The writing was smooth the anecdotes compelling.

  • The Kite Runner

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 2 mins)
    • By Khaled Hosseini
    • Narrated By Khaled Hosseini

Why we think it’s a great listen: Never before has an author’s narration of his fiction been so important to fully grasping the book’s impact and global implications. Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of its monarchy to the present, The Kite Runner is the unforgettable story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul. Their intertwined lives, and their fates, reflect the eventual tragedy of the world around them.

    Joseph says: "A storyteller's story"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

    A different book entirely.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Brother Fish

You didn???t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

This book is a weak attempt. Are you 5 star people fans of Jerry Springer and Judge Judy? This is the only demographic that can think this is a worthy read. Please warn people that this is a book of outlandish stereotypes, pedophiles and wussy's.

  • Killing Rommel

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 22 mins)
    • By Steven Pressfield
    • Narrated By Alfred Molina
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Autumn 1942. Hitler's legions have swept across Europe; France has fallen; Churchill and the English stand isolated on their island. In North Africa, Rommel and his Panzers have routed the British Eighth Army and stand poised to overrun Egypt, Suez, and the oil fields of the Middle East.

    James says: "Killing Rommel"

This is one of the rare gems of historical fiction. If you like O'Bryan and Bernard Cornwell you will love Pressfield. Narration is on par with Patrick Tull! I could not stop listening.

With the emperor Napoleon at its head, an enormous French army is marching toward Brussels. The British and their allies are also converging on Brussels - in preparation for a grand society ball. And it is up to Richard Sharpe to convince the Prince of Orange to act before it is too late. In this, the culmination of Sharpe's long and arduous career, Bernard Cornwell brings to life all the horror and all the exhilaration of one of the greatest military triumphs of all time.

    Michael Cox says: "Spell binding"
"On the edge of your seat"

Wow.. Is there life after Sharpe. The entire series is as good as it gets!

  • The Elephant and the Dragon: The Rise of India and China, and What It Means for All of Us

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 42 mins)
    • By Robyn Meredith
    • Narrated By Laural Merlington
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Exotic India is as near as the voice answering an 800 number for one dollar an hour. Communist China is as close as the nearest Wal-Mart, its shelves full of goods made in Chinese factories. But India and China are vastly different nations, with opposing economic and political strategies - strategies we must understand to survive in the new global economy. The Elephant and the Dragon explains how these nations have spurred a new "gold rush", and what this will mean for the rest of the world.

    R. Reed says: "Confused and not scholarly"
    "Wow Great insight"

This book was clear and precise in what is happening in CHINDIA. If you are involved in business in the USA READ THIS BOOK!!

    • UNABRIDGED (3 hrs and 32 mins)
    • By Geronimo Stilton
    • Narrated By Edward Herrmann

Who is Geronimo Stilton? That's me! I run a newspaper, but my true passion is writing adventure stories. Here in New Mouse City, the capital of Mouse Island, my books are all best sellers! My stories are funny, fa-mouse-ly funny. They are whisker-licking-good tales, and that's a promise.

Stewart Kennedy says: "Great bed time ritual"
    "Great bed time ritual"

My kids are 4 and 5 and can be difficult to get to bed! So as any loving father of audio books I decided to give this a try for a calming soothing bed time ritual that was longer than a Dr Seusse book. Well it is magical!! My daughter cannot wait to listen and my son gets into them once they start. They listen to them over and over. ENJOY!!

  • The Last Juror

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 48 mins)
    • By John Grisham
    • Narrated By Michael Beck
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In 1970, one of Mississippi's more colorful weekly newspapers, The Ford County Times, went bankrupt. To the surprise and dismay of many, ownership was assumed by a 23 year-old college dropout, named Willie Traynor. The future of the paper looked grim until a young mother was brutally raped and murdered by a member of the notorious Padgitt family. Willie Traynor reported all the gruesome details, and his newspaper began to prosper.

    Danielle says: "Grisham's Finest"
"Where have you gone john grisham?"

I do know now that publishing books has become more important than creating a masterpiece. Please come back and thrill me with suspense, fear and wondering. You have such talent to produce spellbinding tales. This is not one of them and the one before was not one either. Take some time off. But come back with a good one or you will be known only as a pulp fiction grinder.

  • Eragon: The Inheritance Cycle, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (16 hrs and 21 mins)
    • By Christopher Paolini
    • Narrated By Gerard Doyle
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy; perhaps it will buy his family meat for the winter. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.

    Sandra says: "Utterly Awesome!"
"Are you sure this is 5 stars?"

I read alot of reviews for this book and decided to give it a try. Wow was this written by a 15 year old? YES! and you can tell after listening for 5 minutes. Dont get me wrong, if you are 15 or younger you will enjoy this book. If you like fantasy and are not into new thinking or unpredictable plots knock yourself out but do not leave 5 star reviews!! The author will get better with age. It just seems he is trying to hard and things are slightly disjointed. If you want good SF or Fantasy try OS Card.
