"Perfect story: perfect narration!"
I am a true book lover, but the story must be captivating, and for an audio book, the narration must be interesting. This is a perfect combination of great story and great narrator: spend your credit on this!
"A wonderful, exotic journey"
This is excellent listening...it's a wonderful journey into a place many of us won't ever see, the deep jungle. Charaters are engaging, and the reader is drawn into the protagonist's world immediately. This is a purchase you won't regret: it's not one of those "iffy" books: it's a great one!
"Sad to say: LOVE all Alice Hoffman EXCEPT this!"
I am a huge Alice Hoffman fan; not only have I bought all of her adult books, but I've also bought her children's fiction for my kids. However, I am not a fan of this book, as much as I hate to say it. The characters are not as accessible as those in other Hoffman novels, and her trademark mystical elements do not enliven this particular work.Yes, some magic is evident here, but it's not enough to make me like these characters or this story. However, since our connections to a work are related to our experiences, past and present, perhaps the problem was with the reader, not the writing! Or was it that I was listening to, not reading, this??? Anyway, go to ANY other Alice Hoffman novel, and you will love it, really, really love it. Start with the early stuff and read it all, but skip this one.
"Stop authors from reading!"
This book MAY be tolerable, but the author's reading of it is NOT. In fact, I don't know if I disliked the story or just her voice. Don't choose this; I listen to various types of books, and I couldn't listen to this.
