RITU

Most of the story is told from the perspective of a twelve year old boy who I grew to love, flaws and all (due in part to the skillfull narration). The author has obviously done her research and her description of the complexities of life on a reservation are very realistic. The only parts I did not enjoy were the sidebars where she told a story within the story. I think she was trying to write in an "authentic" native voice but the sidebars were very distracting. It was really hard to discern the message she was trying to convey with them.

I liked the first spinoff from the Jack Stapleton/Lori Montgomery Series but this one wasn't as well written. The Pia Grazdani character is well developed but she and her sort of sidekick George Wilson don't seem to have gelled as a team and this is Book 2. While I can handle an ending that leaves one in suspense, this book went a little too far.

The book was well written and well narrated. Whether you are an extrovert or introvert, it is worth reading.

This novel was more on the macho side and less on the cerebral side. The characters were not well developed. Some of the medical information in the book was wrong.

When I purchased the title, I thought it was a mystery. However, it was part romance part mystery and I found myself cringing on hearing some of the bad writing and breathless narration.

I found the novel hard to follow as it jumps back and forth in time and between characters. The various narratives are interesting and there are some intersections of characters. However, the book doesn't hang together well. It would have been better as a collection of short stories. The narrator is wonderful though and I could listen to her forever.

Complex plot and characters. Part mystery part social commentary on race relations in the American south. Tight story (until the very end when it stretches the imagination). Excellent narrator.

We had listened to the previous three books and were looking forward to an interesting plot and character development/exploration in this book. Instead we were treated to long descriptions of guns and violent ambushes and fights. If you like that kind of stuff, this book is for you.

The novel is well written and Grover Gardner is one of my favorite male narrators. The storyline is quite believable until the last 1/3 of the book when it veers off into the unbelievable. But by that point, I was hooked and so listened until the very end.

This is worth listening to in one sitting. The plot is interesting. The narrator is spectacular.
