WoW! I couldn't stop listening. Wonderful engaging characters and a plot that wouldn't let go. I will be looking for more books by Ms Brown.

I can't complain about the ending because I can't get that far. I'm half way through and just don't care enough about the characters to go on. Despite having gotten to know them all in the first two books, they now seem to have no personality and no "story". The plot is written like an outline with huge jumps between scenes and passes through time so quickly you wonder if you missed a part.
The first two books in the series were wonderful and I couldn't stop listening. This one I stopped after a couple of hours and came back to it weeks later. Now, I'm half way and know it's just not worth my time.

I haven't finished the book so am not sure how good the actual story is. The voice and manner of reading of the narrator is so irritating that I can't keep my mind on the story but just on my frustration with the sound of her voice. The laughter and sighs she puts into the story on her own are very distracting and out of place. To me she sounds like a kindergarten teacher reading a story to her pupils and it doesn't work for this book. I actually have the written form of the book on my kindle and tried to continue the story by reading it but all I could hear was her voice in my head as I read the words myself. ARRRRGGGHH. I had to give that up. Maybe I can finish it later when the narrators voice is out of my head.

Beautiful and heartbreaking....a wonderful historical novel that makes you happy you are living now. Beautifully read by the author. I couldn't stop listening so did all my grocery shopping and driving and house cleaning without stopping it.

It's a shame that so many listeners are offended by Child's attempt to bring out some of the truth about what has happened within the military in the past few years. While it may seem unlikely for Reacher to be the one to do it, he has been out long enough now to see that it is no longer the same military he served with and to want to correct , in some way, what he sees as injustice.
An excellent story that I truly enjoyed...and yes, I do have experience living within the military complex.

This was a story with many twists and turns and very well developed characters that I felt like I was able to get to "know". It was masterfully read by Barry Eisler himself and he truly brought Docs and Rain to life. I hope that he will continue to narrate his own books as he does it very well. I hated when I had to stop listening to do something else and I hope he has another great story coming out soon.
I also hope that he will rerecord his previous book, Requiem for an Assassin, that was destroyed by Scott Brick's narration. I will buy it again just to listen to it read as it should have been.

Good thing this was a free book. It was a total waste of time and I do like her other books with these lead characters. But this one sounded as if written by a teenager (no offense intended towards teens). The characters were silly and the plot not filled out. Just couldn't see why it was even written.

I knew when I heard the first words of the story that it would be a real challenge to continue listening to this story. Scott Brick is NO John Rain. Nor is he a convincing Docs....nor was he convincing in any character in the book. His overly dramatic reading of every minute of the book was like hearing fingernails on a chalk board and I had to quit severall times just to try and forget the sound. Brick is unable to distinguish between characters by changing his voice. When two people are talking it is nearly impossible to follow the conversation and understand who is actually speaking because there is no change in tone and, as always, both people are speaking in ALL CAPS AND WITH EXCLAMATION POINTS!!! during the entire time. He completely ruined the story. I do not understand why Eisler would allow someone other than one of the previous....appropriate....narrators, including himself,to read this book. It was a huge mistake.
When I first discovered Audible books many , many years ago, Scott Brick was one of the first narrators I heard and , with nothing to compare to, I thought he was great. But, from that time on, every book I've listened to that was narrated by him sounded like the first series I'd heard so I could never get the real feel of other characters beyond those first ones. And now I have to wonder how much better some of those books would be if they were reperformed by another narrator.

All this said, I immediately began the next book in this series, The Detachment, and gave it 5 stars for an exciting story with individual characters that sounded as believable as we had become accustomed to them sounding. It was narrated by Barry Eisler and he handled it superbly. He IS John Rain.

This story has been very difficult to get into and keep the timeline straight as it is constantly going to flashbacks requiring the listener to back up and try to reorient. I do find my mind drifting more than usual requiring me, again, to back up and refocus. It is very slow and very difficult to make one even care much about the characters. I have liked other John Connolly stories but this one isn't his best.

Brilliantly woven story that kept me changing my mind as to what was really happening all the way to the end. It was perfectly narrated and paced. Can't wait for her next story to come out in this series.

This classic story of Victorian English life is excellent tho perhaps a bit slow to get through given the very wordy and indirect manner of speaking in those times. I did have to rewind frequently to try and understand what they meant to say as they never spoke directly but with much innuendo.
The narrator did a fine job but the audio itself was so poorly done as to make it difficult to listen to. The words were often "soft" and mushy sounding , not because of the diction of the narrator but due to the poor recording. It would be great if they could redo this classic story with more modern recording equipmemt.
