Have you ever heard of your inner child? Well, this is the classic book that started it all. In 1987, Charlie Whitfield's breakthrough concept of the child within - that part of us which is truly alive, energetic, creative. and fulfilled - launched the inner child movement. Healing the Child Within describes how the inner child is lost to trauma and loss, and how by recovering it, we can heal the fear, confusion and unhappiness of adult life.

Conventional wisdom holds that if we work hard we will be more successful, and if we are more successful, then we’ll be happy. If we can just find that great job, win that next promotion, lose those five pounds, happiness will follow. But recent discoveries in the field of positive psychology have shown that this formula is actually backward: Happiness fuels success, not the other way around. When we are positive, our brains become more engaged, creative, motivated, energetic, resilient, and productive at work.

    Overall

If someone told me earlier that happiness causes success, I would have never believed. But this book really shows in depth how that works.

I have noted lately how a happy mood actually does make me more creative, intelligent and passionate. All of which make others too happy, creative and passionate by induction. And it just improves my life.

The suggestion of fulcrum and level has made a huge difference in way I interpret things and how satisfied I feel with life. :) Surely I do not paint the life bright in a Pollyanna style, but I do notice ways to look at things that are just as real but more positive. We often ignore the positive aspects of situation and concentrate on the bad. Why? Just to hijack our emotional response ? :) I feel that with the real but the positive way of looking at things makes me feel living a good life and makes me more productive. And the positive way of looking at things is infectious.

I also invest more in social relationships. In tough situations I specially reach out and talk instead of going it alone. And those terribly stressful situations suddenly become so much more manageable and I feel more in control of my destiny. It does make my work life more happy as I also create more trusting relationships.

Overall I highly recommend this book.
